Key takeaways
- Kudanisar Shrine is in the Gerudo Desert, near Karusa Valley, at approximately -4159, -2145, 0048. Other map references give a very similar position, around -4168, -2140, 0050, because map and marker placement can vary slightly.
- The shrine is surrounded by quicksand and Soldier Constructs Approaching from the northern cliffs and gliding down is generally the simplest route.
- Inside, moving sand rapidly consumes stamina, so the intended solution is to cross on wooden boards and sleds rather than swim or run through the sand.
- The main objective is to launch a shrine orb across the chamber, retrieve it, attach it to a sled and carry it to the final socket.
- The optional treasures are 10 Arrows and a Hasty Elixir.
- Completing the shrine grants a Light of Blessing and activates Kudanisar Shrine as a fast-travel point.
About this guide
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, base game Spoiler warning: This guide reveals the shrine’s puzzle, treasure locations, enemies and reward.
Overview
Kudanisar Shrine is a Surface Shrine in the Gerudo Desert of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its trial is called “Bridging the Sands”, an appropriate name for a puzzle built around quicksand, movable wooden boards, sleds and a shrine orb. Rather than relying on one rigid construction, the shrine encourages Link to combine Ultrahand, basic traversal and Zonai-powered vehicles to cross a large sand-filled chamber.
The shrine stands in the desert near the entrance to Karusa Valley, in a broad area of flowing sand. It is not part of Karusa Valley itself, nor is it a settlement, cave or regional quest area. For practical purposes, this guide treats the location as three connected layers:
Introduction
- 01The shrine’s exterior approach, including the surrounding quicksand and nearby Soldier Constructs.
- 02The interior of Kudanisar Shrine, where the “Bridging the Sands” trial takes place.
- 03The shrine’s wider map connections, particularly Karusa Valley, the West Gerudo Ruins, the North Gerudo Ruins and the corresponding Depths Lightroot.
Surface location
Kudanisar Shrine is located in the Gerudo Desert, southeast of Karusa Valley according to one map guide, and near the entrance to Karusa Valley according to another. It sits in a large river or basin of quicksand rather than on a conventional rocky approach. The West Gerudo Ruins lie to the northeast or nearby depending on the map reference, while the North Gerudo Ruins are also used as a positional landmark.
The shrine’s immediate exterior is best understood as a small hostile traversal area. The shrine itself is the glowing structure at the centre, while the surrounding sand, constructs and approach cliffs are part of the route to it, not named shrine subareas.
Not included as part of Kudanisar Shrine
Those locations are useful navigation references but are not subareas of Kudanisar Shrine.
Comprehensive named-location directory
Regional hierarchy
Kudanisar Shrine corresponds to Rasinaduk Lightroot in the Gerudo Desert Depths. The Lightroot is a separate Depths location, not an interior level of the shrine, but the two locations occupy the same general map relationship.

Regional hierarchy
Recommended route
The easiest approach is from the cliffs north of the shrine. From a high point, glide south towards the shrine and land on a stable patch of ground or close to the shrine entrance. This avoids spending too long in the exterior quicksand.
The shrine can also be reached with a sand-seal route or a vehicle built from a sled, fan and steering stick. A vehicle is useful if you want to cross the surrounding sand without repeatedly draining stamina.
Practical preparation
The shrine does not require a special regional quest, dungeon completion or story-state condition. It is a standard accessible Surface Shrine once you reach the Gerudo Desert.
---
Kudanisar Shrine consists mainly of one very large room divided into several raised platforms and sand channels. The chamber is dominated by moving quicksand. Wooden boards drift across the sand, and the player must use them as temporary platforms, bridges or ramps.
The layout can be divided into five practical sections:
This is a gameplay division rather than a set of canonical room names. The game presents the interior as one continuous shrine chamber.
---
Practical preparation
- 01The entrance sand channel, where Link first uses boards to reach a safe corner.
- 02The board-and-ladder section, which leads to a raised platform and a switch.
- 03The sled area, containing Zonai sled vehicles and the first major traversal route.
- 04The optional chest platforms, including the Hasty Elixir chest.
- 05The orb and exit section, where the orb must be retrieved and delivered to the final socket.
Soldier Constructs
Soldier Constructs are found around the exterior and inside the shrine. The interior encounters include constructs positioned near the raised platforms and the shrine orb route. They are ordinary shrine enemies rather than a boss encounter.
Enemy directory
The available shrine reference lists four Soldier Constructs in total, along with numerous fixed spike hazards.
Quicksand
The quicksand is the shrine’s defining hazard. Moving through it rapidly drains stamina, making it dangerous to cross directly. The sand also carries boards and vehicles along its flow, so objects can drift away if they are not secured or positioned carefully.
Do not treat the sand like ordinary ground. If Link becomes trapped in a long stretch of it, he may run out of stamina before reaching a safe platform. Use boards as stepping stones, or build a longer bridge.
Spike crushers
Spike hazards are positioned along parts of the moving-sand route. They make simply running or swimming through the room unreliable and punish attempts to ignore the board-based traversal.
Moving boards
The wooden boards are the main puzzle material. They can be:
A board assembly does not need to be elegant. A slightly awkward bridge is usually sufficient if it reaches the next safe platform.
Environmental directory
Only some of these are named by the game or guide references. The descriptive labels above are functional descriptions, not additional in-game proper names.
---
Treasure inventory
The shrine contains two optional treasure chests. The first is suspended by a rope near the far side of the chamber. The second sits on an isolated platform and requires a small bridge or ramp to reach.
Treasure inventory
| Location | Contents | How to obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Hanging chest near the raised platform | 10 Arrows | Shoot the supporting rope, then catch or retrieve the chest with Ultrahand |
| Isolated platform in the opposite corner | Hasty Elixir | Reach the platform with a sled and create a board ramp |
Light of Blessing
After placing the orb in the final socket, the exit opens. Interact with the shrine’s altar to receive one Light of Blessing. Completing the shrine also activates it as a permanent fast-travel point.
Reward directory
The Arrows and Hasty Elixir are fixed treasure rewards rather than random drops. Soldier Construct materials and equipment, by contrast, are enemy drops and should not be confused with shrine treasure.
---
1. Build the first bridge
At the entrance, inspect the boards moving across the sand. Take the vertical board and attach it to the nearest moving board. Attach that assembly to another board farther along the route.
Use the connected boards to cross towards the safe area at the corner of the room. Once there, reposition the assembly so that it forms a ramp over the barrier into the next section. This is the first lesson of the shrine: the same object can serve as a bridge in one position and a ramp in another.
2. Extend the bridge to the ladder
In the next section, attach another wooden board to the existing assembly. The longer bridge should reach towards the ladder platform.
Move carefully. A Soldier Construct is positioned behind or near a vertical board and may not be visible immediately. You can either defeat it with arrows or move the board first and expose the enemy before crossing.
3. Climb to the raised platform
Climb the ladder to reach the upper platform. From here, the shrine opens into its largest section, with sleds and Zonai controls available for longer crossings.
Before travelling onwards, look towards the side platform where the hanging chest can be seen.
4. Collect the 10 Arrows
The chest containing 10 Arrows hangs from a rope near the far wall. Use your bow to cut the rope. The chest may fall towards the sand or a lower platform, so be ready to grab it with Ultrahand.
A sled can be positioned near the chest to make the recovery easier. If you have enough stamina, you can also glide or jump towards the chest platform.
Reliable method
- 01Take control of a nearby sled.
- 02Drive or push it towards the raised area near the hanging chest.
- 03Stop the sled where it will not slide away.
- 04Shoot the rope.
- 05Immediately use Ultrahand to catch or retrieve the chest.
- 06Open it to receive 10 Arrows.
5. Reach the Hasty Elixir chest
Take a sled towards the opposite corner, where a small isolated platform holds the second chest. Position the sled so its body is pressed against the platform or another stable surface. This prevents it from drifting away while you build.
Use two nearby boards to create a ramp. One common arrangement is to attach a vertical board at an angle to a horizontal board, producing a sloped climbing surface. Defeat the Soldier Construct on the platform, then open the chest to obtain the Hasty Elixir.
6. Activate the orb launcher
Return to the platform with the switch. Step on the switch to launch the shrine orb across the chamber.
The orb is deliberately sent to the far side, so the next task is not to carry it directly from the starting area. Instead, use the sled route to reach the orb’s landing area.
7. Cross to the orb platform
Drive a sled along the side of the chamber towards the platform where the orb landed. If necessary, use the sled to reach a position beneath the upper ledge, then use Ascend to pass through the platform above.
Two Soldier Constructs occupy this part of the route. Defeat them before handling the orb, especially if the orb has landed near a drop or moving sand.
8. Attach the orb to a sled
Locate the orb in the lower section near the far platform. Attach it to a sled with Ultrahand.
Step on the nearby switch to open the bars or gate blocking the return route. Place the orb-bearing sled in the moving sand and take control of it. Keep the sled aligned with the return route and avoid allowing it to drift into the spike hazards.
The exact vehicle arrangement is flexible. The essential requirements are that the orb remains attached and that the sled can carry it back towards the exit.
9. Build the final ramp
Back near the exit, use the available boards to make a ramp up the stairs or raised route leading to the final socket.
The simplest arrangement is to join three boards, or use the existing board assembly if it is still available, and place it at an angle so the orb can be carried up to the final level. Detach the orb from the sled before the final climb if the vehicle is obstructing the route.
10. Place the orb and claim the reward
Carry the orb to the socket near the shrine exit and place it in position. The final gate opens.
Proceed to the altar and collect the Light of Blessing. The shrine is then complete and becomes available as a fast-travel point.
---
Kudanisar Shrine is deliberately compatible with creative Ultrahand solutions. The guides describe a conventional route using boards and sleds, but the shrine’s construction system allows variation.
If a board assembly is lost
Do not restart immediately. Search the nearby sand channels for additional boards. Several boards move through the chamber, and a new bridge can usually be assembled from the remaining materials.
If the sled drifts away
Use another sled if one remains. Alternatively, attach boards together and use them as a floating platform. The shrine does not require one particular vehicle to survive from beginning to end.
If the orb is awkwardly positioned
The orb can be attached to a sled and transported rather than carried by hand. This is safer and is the intended way to move it through the large sand section.
If a construct blocks the route
You can fight the Soldier Constructs normally, shoot them from a distance or use the surrounding boards and platforms to gain a better position. They are not a boss and do not require a special weapon.
---
For players who want all rewards with minimal backtracking:
This route prioritises the optional chests before the orb is returned, reducing the chance of having to cross the chamber again.
---
Kudanisar Shrine has no known quest-state variation in the base game. Its puzzle, treasure and reward are available independently of the Gerudo regional storyline. There is no reported missable treasure trigger: both chests can be collected before completing the shrine, and the Light of Blessing remains available until the shrine is finished.
The main practical failure states are environmental rather than permanent:
These situations can generally be solved by using remaining boards, another sled or a different Ultrahand construction. The guides do not identify a permanent lockout or one-time-only reward condition.
---
Kudanisar Shrine is a Shrine of Light, a class of shrine introduced in Tears of the Kingdom. Its reward altar contains the recurring Rauru and Sonia imagery used by the game’s shrines, and its final reward is a Light of Blessing rather than a spirit orb or another reward type from an earlier game.
The shrine has no known appearance in Breath of the Wild or earlier Zelda games. It belongs to Tears of the Kingdom and should not be confused with similarly named shrines such as Kadaunar Shrine, which is a separate location in another region.
Its corresponding Depths location is Rasinaduk Lightroot, providing a useful vertical-map relationship for players exploring both world layers. The Lightroot is not a second version of the shrine and does not contain the same puzzle.
---
If a construct blocks the route: steps
- 01Approach from the northern cliffs and glide to the shrine.
- 02Enter and build the first bridge.
- 03Extend it to the ladder and defeat the concealed Soldier Construct.
- 04Climb to the sled area.
- 05Collect the hanging chest containing 10 Arrows.
- 06Take a sled to the opposite corner.
- 07Build the angled board ramp and collect the Hasty Elixir.
- 08Return to the launcher platform.
- 09Launch the orb.
- 10Drive to the far platform and use Ascend.
- 11Defeat the two constructs near the orb.
- 12Attach the orb to a sled.
- 13Open the gate and drive back.
- 14Build the final ramp.
- 15Place the orb in the socket.
- 16Claim the Light of Blessing.
