About this guide
Scope: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, base game Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Gerudo regional quest, Gibdo attacks, side quests and the bazaar’s progression changes.
Overview
Kara Kara Bazaar is a desert oasis and trading settlement on the main road between Gerudo Canyon and Gerudo Town. In Tears of the Kingdom, it is more than a convenient shop stop. It is the first substantial settlement most players reach in the Gerudo Desert, a staging point for the regional phenomenon involving Riju, and the location of several side quests, including Decorate with Passion and Lost in the Dunes.
The bazaar sits within the wider Gerudo Desert, but it should not be confused with Gerudo Town, the Gerudo Canyon region, the Gerudo Canyon Stable or the abandoned mine beneath it. Its named settlement area includes the oasis, its buildings, the bazaar well, the Mayatat Shrine and the immediate roads and approaches. The surrounding desert, caves, ruins and the Depths are neighbouring areas rather than part of the bazaar itself.
Kara Kara Bazaar is also one of the clearest examples of how Tears of the Kingdom reuses and develops locations from Breath of the Wild. Its basic role remains the same, but its shops, residents and story function change to reflect the new Gerudo crisis.
Geography and boundaries
Kara Kara Bazaar is built around a small oasis in the Gerudo Desert. Palm trees, shallow water and clustered merchant buildings make it visually distinct from the open sand around it. The settlement occupies a compact area rather than spreading across the desert. Its practical boundary is the group of buildings and platforms surrounding the oasis, together with the nearby shrine, well and immediate road.
The bazaar should be treated as a settlement and transport node, not as a name for the whole Gerudo Desert. Gerudo Town, the Gerudo Canyon Stable, the Great Cliffs, the West Gerudo Ruins and the surrounding desert camps are distinct locations.
The settlement’s map position is commonly given around -3290, -2510, 0024, with small variations depending on whether the reference point is the shrine, central oasis or nearby building. The nearby Mayatat Shrine is listed around -3292, -2509, 0024.
Included within the bazaar settlement
The following are the principal named or functionally distinct parts of the location:
Nearby, but separate
These places are connected to Kara Kara Bazaar but should not be merged into its directory:
The Abandoned Kara Kara Mine is sometimes presented as the bazaar’s “Depths counterpart”. It is a useful vertical and thematic comparison, but it is not an underground extension of the surface settlement. The surface and Depths maps use related geography while remaining separate areas.

Reaching Kara Kara Bazaar
From Gerudo Canyon
The most straightforward approach is to follow the main road south-west from the Gerudo Canyon side of the desert. This is the natural route for a first visit. The road leads through increasingly hot terrain before the palms of the oasis become visible.
Before entering the open desert, prepare at least one of the following:
The bazaar is a useful first destination because it provides a safe place to rest and buy desert supplies.
From Gerudo Town
Kara Kara Bazaar lies north-east of Gerudo Town. The two settlements are connected by the main desert route, although the desert between them can become difficult to navigate during the regional sandstorm.
During the Gerudo story sequence, the sandstorm interferes with normal map navigation. If the map becomes unreliable, use visible landmarks, the road, shrine discovery and the oasis itself rather than relying solely on the Purah Pad.
Fast travel
Mayatat Shrine is the bazaar’s principal fast-travel point. It is positioned near the settlement and is generally the first priority when arriving. The shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine, meaning that the main challenge is reaching and discovering it rather than completing a conventional interior puzzle.
Once activated, Mayatat Shrine allows quick return trips for:
The shrine’s listed trial and location references place it directly at Kara Kara Bazaar, around -3292, -2509, 0024.

Settlement services
Kara Kara Bazaar’s importance comes from the number of basic services concentrated in a small area.
Shops and merchants
The bazaar has several separate shops and merchant stalls. Their names should not be collapsed into a single “general store”, because different vendors sell different inventories.
Emri’s General Store
Emri’s shop sells several useful desert-related ingredients and materials:
Electric Safflina is useful for electricity-based cooking and elixirs, while Hydromelon is particularly valuable in the Gerudo region because it contributes to heat-resistant meals. Oil Jars can assist with climbing and other movement situations.
Maike’s General Store
Maike sells a mixture of monster materials and prepared food:
The Lizalfos Tail is useful for upgrading equipment and brewing elixirs. The prepared foods are convenient if Link has not yet built a strong cooking stockpile.
Fashion Passion
Fashion Passion is the bazaar’s armour shop. It is operated by Saula and sells the Desert Voe Headband.
The headband grants one level of heat resistance when worn. It is one part of the Desert Voe set, but the remaining pieces are obtained elsewhere, including through Gerudo-related shops and progression. The shop is therefore useful early, but it does not provide a complete heat-proof solution by itself.
Fashion Passion’s location in Kara Kara Bazaar is a change from the arrangement of some Breath of the Wild shops. The relocation is noted in armour-shop references for Tears of the Kingdom.
Kachoo’s shop
Kachoo operates the general shop associated with the Kara Kara Bazaar Inn. The listed wares include:
The elemental jellies are useful for setting up elemental effects without hunting the corresponding Chuchu immediately. The arrow bundle is an easy restock before crossing the desert or beginning the Gerudo regional quest.
Beedle
Beedle can also appear at Kara Kara Bazaar as a travelling merchant. His shop is separate from the bazaar’s permanent stores and should be treated as a visiting service rather than a fixed bazaar business.
Beedle’s stock changes according to his standard travelling-merchant inventory and may include arrows and other common supplies. Because his appearance and wares are not identical to the permanent shops, check his shop screen directly rather than assuming that every listed merchant offers the same stock.
Inn and resting facilities
The Kara Kara Bazaar Inn provides a place to rest and is also associated with Kachoo’s shop. Resting can be useful for:
The inn is a service building, not a stable. Kara Kara Bazaar does not replace the functions of a registered stable, and it does not provide horse registration or stable points.
Cooking
The oasis has cooking facilities. This is especially valuable before travelling into the desert because heat resistance, stamina recovery and emergency healing are all easier to manage with prepared meals.
The bazaar is therefore a practical preparation point even if the player is not interested in its quests.
---
Residents and named characters
The settlement has a mixture of permanent residents, merchants, travellers and characters whose presence changes according to the story.
Story-associated visitors
The bazaar also has numerous unnamed Gerudo, Hylian and travelling NPCs. Their exact presence and dialogue can vary with story progression. A complete character directory should therefore distinguish permanent shopkeepers from temporary visitors and quest-stage appearances rather than presenting every person seen in the oasis as a resident.

Main story: Riju of Gerudo Town
Kara Kara Bazaar is an important stop during Riju of Gerudo Town, one of the four regional phenomena storylines.
After Link reaches the Gerudo region and follows the relevant investigation, a Gerudo guard reports that the bazaar is under attack. Riju and Link travel to the settlement, where Gibdos emerge and attack the oasis.
What happens at the bazaar
Gibdos are initially resistant to ordinary attacks. Fire, electricity, water and other elemental effects can expose their vulnerable state, after which normal damage becomes more effective. Riju’s lightning ability is particularly important in this regional quest, but the bazaar encounter also teaches the player how elemental damage works against the Gerudo enemy type.
The attack is a progression event rather than a permanently recurring bazaar activity. Once the story moves forward, the settlement returns to its normal service role, although conversations and character placement may differ.
A guard named Faundi is reported as part of the bazaar sequence, and walkthrough references identify the attack as an early objective in the Gerudo regional quest.
---
What happens at the bazaar: The encounter generally proceeds as follows
- 01Reach Kara Kara Bazaar during the Gerudo regional storyline.
- 02Speak with the relevant Gerudo characters and observe the emergency.
- 03Fight the Gibdos attacking the settlement.
- 04Use elemental effects to make Gibdos vulnerable.
- 05Protect the bazaar and its inhabitants.
- 06Follow Riju towards the next stage of the Gerudo investigation.
Side quests and activities
Decorate with Passion
Quest giver: Boraa Location: Kara Kara Bazaar Type: Side quest
Boraa asks Link to help create a decorated weapon for her mentor. The quest requires attaching a precious stone to a weapon, demonstrating the game’s Fuse system.
The exact material requirement should be read from Boraa’s dialogue and quest marker. Do not fuse a valuable stone before confirming what the quest requests, particularly if resources are limited.
Boraa is commonly located around -3224, -2522, 0023, although NPC positions can shift slightly.
Lost in the Dunes
Quest giver: Benja Location: Kara Kara Bazaar Type: Side quest Progression: Available after the relevant Gerudo story development
Benja asks Link to help locate people who have disappeared in the desert. The quest leads away from the settlement and into the surrounding dunes, so it is better understood as a bazaar-started desert expedition rather than an activity confined to the oasis.
The quest is listed as beginning at Kara Kara Bazaar and is associated with the Gerudo story progression.
Ordinary exploration
Even without accepting a quest, the bazaar rewards a short inspection:
---
Decorate with Passion: A practical completion route is
- 01Speak to Boraa near the bazaar.
- 02Listen to the clue about the required decoration.
- 03Obtain a suitable weapon if necessary.
- 04Fuse the requested precious stone to it.
- 05Show the resulting weapon to Boraa.
- 06Collect the quest reward.
Kara Kara Bazaar Well
The Kara Kara Bazaar Well is a separate underground area beneath the settlement. Its entrance lies within the bazaar’s surface boundary, but the well should be listed independently from the oasis.
The well is useful as a small exploration detour and may contain:
One guide records a single Poe and heat-related materials including Fireproof Lizards and Smotherwing Butterflies. Because item placement can be difficult to verify across guides and may be confused with other well inventories, treat this inventory as a researched guide entry rather than a substitute for checking the well in-game.
Well checklist
The well is not a chasm and does not lead directly to the Depths.
---
Well checklist
- 01Enter the well from the oasis.
- 02Light the area or use Brightbloom Seeds.
- 03Search side ledges before leaving.
- 04Collect the Poe and materials.
- 05Look for Ascend opportunities beneath the buildings.
- 06Return to the surface through the well entrance or a suitable vertical route.
Items, equipment and collectibles
Purchasable equipment
The Desert Voe Headband is especially important for early desert travel, but it is only one item and does not complete the full Desert Voe outfit. The shop directory confirms Saula’s shop and the headband as a Kara Kara Bazaar armour service.
Weapons and environmental pickups
Gerudo weapons may be found leaning against or near buildings and storage areas. These are environmental pickups rather than shop inventory. Their availability should not be confused with permanent purchase options.
Because weapon pickups can be affected by story state, blood-moon respawns and the game’s weapon scaling system, use them as useful opportunistic finds rather than a guaranteed fixed stock.
Korok Seeds and other map collectibles
The settlement and its immediate approaches may contain environmental puzzles and collectible interactions, but a complete Korok directory requires a dedicated map pass. The named settlement itself should not be expanded to include every collectible in the surrounding desert. Each seed should be recorded by its exact subarea or landmark if compiling a full regional checklist.
---
Purchasable equipment
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Desert Voe Headband | Sold by Saula at Fashion Passion. Provides heat resistance. |
| Arrows ×5 | Available from Kachoo’s shop. |
| Elemental Chuchu Jelly | Available from Kachoo’s shop. |
| Hydromelon | Sold by Emri and useful for heat-resistance meals. |
| Electric Safflina | Sold by Emri. |
| Oil Jar | Sold by Emri. |
Enemies and hazards
Gibdos
Gibdos are the defining story enemy at Kara Kara Bazaar. They attack the oasis during Riju of Gerudo Town and are best handled with elemental damage before following up with ordinary attacks.
The main hazard is allowing several Gibdos to surround the settlement while their ranged attacks and burrowing movements make positioning difficult.
Desert heat
During the day, the bazaar’s surrounding desert causes heat damage unless Link has sufficient heat resistance. At night, the temperature can reverse and become cold, so a single item or meal may not cover every stage of a long trip.
Sandstorm navigation
The Gerudo sandstorm can disrupt map navigation and obscure distant landmarks. If this occurs:
Desert wildlife and monsters
The open approaches can contain standard Gerudo Desert enemies and wildlife. These belong to the wider desert encounter table rather than being unique inhabitants of Kara Kara Bazaar. The settlement itself is normally a safe social space except during story attacks.
---
Progression changes
Kara Kara Bazaar changes most noticeably during the Gerudo regional storyline.
After the attack
The bazaar resumes its normal role as a trading post and quest location. The regional story continues towards Gerudo Town and the Lightning Temple. Some dialogue and character placement may change, but the settlement remains available for shopping, resting and exploration.
Quest timing and missability
The bazaar’s quests are not generally permanently missable in the ordinary sense. However, their availability, dialogue and starting conditions can depend on Gerudo story progression. If a quest giver does not offer the expected dialogue:
---
Quest timing and missability
- 01Complete the current Gerudo main-story objective.
- 02Leave and return to the bazaar.
- 03Check the quest giver again during a different time of day.
- 04Confirm that the quest has not already been started in the Adventure Log.
- 05Revisit after the bazaar attack has been resolved.
Comprehensive named directory
The following names are the verified entries most directly associated with Kara Kara Bazaar in Tears of the Kingdom. This directory separates the settlement from neighbouring places and distinguishes businesses from characters.
Story-associated characters
These characters are not all permanent residents of the oasis. Riju and Buliara belong primarily to the Gerudo Town storyline, Rhondson is connected with the wider construction storyline, and Beedle is a travelling merchant.
