Introduction
Ishokin Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing Shrine of Light in the Faron Grasslands, on Zokassa Ridge. Unlike a conventional shrine, its interior contains no puzzle. The challenge is reaching the shrine site and completing the associated shrine quest, Ride the Giant Horse.
The quest is unusual because the shrine’s green crystal is held by Baddek, a traveller camping on the ridge. He will surrender it only after Link brings him the enormous white horse he has heard about. The quest therefore connects the shrine to Highland Stable, the horse’s grazing area near Ibara Butte, and the wider roads south of Lake Hylia.
Location and boundaries
Ishokin Shrine is a single shrine site on a grassy rise along Zokassa Ridge. The immediate shrine area should not be confused with the whole of Faron, the nearby Highland Stable, or the Giant White Horse’s separate grazing location.
For this guide, the shrine’s relevant quest area includes:
Highland Stable and Ibara Butte are connected quest locations, not subareas of Ishokin Shrine itself. Similarly, Utsushok Shrine is a nearby shrine and travel reference, not part of Ishokin Shrine. This distinction matters because the quest crosses several named locations rather than taking place entirely beside the shrine.
The shrine is east of Oseira Plains and south of Lake Hylia. From the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower, Link can launch and glide south-east towards the ridge. The road from Highland Stable provides a more practical approach when beginning the quest, especially if Link intends to continue directly to the horse.
Access and recommended route
From Popla Foothills Skyview Tower
This is the quickest route if the shrine is already visible on the map or if Link is approaching from northern Faron.
From Highland Stable
This route is especially useful if Link has not yet dealt with the Giant White Horse. Guides place Highland Stable east of the shrine, with Baddek’s camp west of the stable along the ridge route.
From Popla Foothills Skyview Tower
- 01Launch from Popla Foothills Skyview Tower.
- 02Glide towards the high ground around Zokassa Ridge.
- 03Land near the unactivated shrine.
- 04Examine the shrine to reveal the crystal’s guiding beam.
- 05Follow the beam uphill to Baddek’s camp.
From Highland Stable
- 01Start at Highland Stable.
- 02Follow the road west towards the ridge.
- 03Climb the high ground when the road becomes less direct.
- 04Look for the campfire and smoke near Baddek.
- 05Examine the shrine before or after speaking to him.
Ride the Giant Horse: walkthrough
1. Examine the incomplete shrine
At the shrine site, examine the shrine pedestal. The shrine will not open because its green crystal is missing. A beam of light points towards Baddek.
You may also speak to Baddek before examining the shrine. The order does not prevent completion, and the Giant White Horse can be tamed before formally starting the shrine quest.
2. Speak to Baddek
Baddek is camped near the crystal. He explains that he wants to see an enormous horse. His request begins Ride the Giant Horse.
The crystal is not obtained through combat or a puzzle. Link must fulfil Baddek’s request and return with the correct horse.
3. Prepare enough stamina
The Giant White Horse is difficult to tame because of its high resistance. The commonly stated requirement is approximately two full stamina wheels, although the exact amount can be supplemented with stamina-restoring or stamina-boosting food and elixirs.
A Malanya Bed at a stable can provide a temporary stamina increase, while stamina food can be used during the taming sequence. The horse guide sources specifically warn that two stamina circles may be necessary and recommend stamina items if Link falls short.
4. Find and tame the Giant White Horse
The horse is found near Ibara Butte, south-west of Highland Stable. Approach quietly, mount it from behind and repeatedly soothe it while spending stamina.
If Link is thrown off, the attempt can be repeated. Snealth-enhancing equipment or food makes the approach easier, but the important requirement is sufficient stamina during the taming animation.
5. Show the horse to Baddek
Ride the horse back to Baddek’s camp on Zokassa Ridge. Baddek recognises it and gives Link the shrine crystal.
The horse does not need to be permanently registered before showing it to Baddek. If desired, Link can first take it to a stable, register it and then return, although this adds travel.
6. Carry the crystal to the shrine
Take the crystal from Baddek and bring it down or across the ridge to the shrine pedestal. The crystal will float and guide Link towards the correct placement point. Set it into the shrine to reveal Ishokin Shrine.
Shrine interior and rewards
Ishokin Shrine is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. Once the crystal has been returned, there is no interior puzzle or combat trial.
The Topaz is fixed shrine treasure rather than a random drop. The Light of Blessing is the shrine-completion reward and counts towards Link’s stamina or heart upgrades.
Shrine interior and rewards: steps
- 01Enter the shrine.
- 02Walk forward to the central treasure chest.
- 03Open it to receive a Topaz.
- 04Continue to the altar.
- 05Examine the altar to receive a Light of Blessing.
The Giant White Horse after the quest
The Giant White Horse is not merely a temporary quest object. After showing it to Baddek, Link can take it to a stable and register it as a personal horse.
It is therefore a powerful-looking mount with a specialised role rather than an all-purpose replacement for a fast horse. The horse’s unusual statistics and equipment restrictions are recorded by the Japanese guide consulted for this quest.
Nearby connections
Highland Stable
Highland Stable is the main practical staging point for the quest. It provides access to stable services, the road towards Zokassa Ridge and the clue leading Link towards the unusual horse. It is a separate location, not part of Ishokin Shrine.
Ibara Butte
Ibara Butte is the Giant White Horse’s grazing area. It is the quest’s main acquisition site and should be treated as a separate named landmark rather than a shrine subarea.
Utsushok Shrine
Utsushok Shrine is a nearby Shrine of Light and a useful map reference around Highland Stable. It is not an additional room, branch or challenge within Ishokin Shrine.
Nikohsi Lightroot
Nikohsi Lightroot is the Depths counterpart associated with Ishokin Shrine. As with other Surface Shrine and Lightroot pairings in Tears of the Kingdom, the two locations are vertically related in the world map, but the Lightroot is a separate facility in the Depths.
Hazards and practical advice
The main risks are environmental and logistical rather than combat-related.
Hazards and practical advice
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Stamina failure | The Giant White Horse can throw Link off before it is tamed. Carry stamina food. |
| Unregistered horse | If Link has no spare stable capacity, the horse may need to be registered before it can be kept reliably. |
| Rough terrain | The route between Ibara Butte, Highland Stable and Zokassa Ridge is not always convenient for mounted travel. Dismount when climbing steep ground. |
| Quest confusion | The crystal is near the shrine, but Baddek is not necessarily standing directly on the shrine pedestal. Follow the beam. |
| Premature horse taming | Link may tame the horse before speaking to Baddek. This is allowed and can make the quest more efficient. |
| Separate stable content | Other Highland Stable activities are not required for Ishokin Shrine unless a particular side quest or stable service is being pursued. |
