Key takeaways

  • Ishodag Shrine is in Quarry Ruins, in western Hyrule Field, rather than inside Lookout Landing or Hyrule Castle Town Ruins.
  • The trial is a practical tutorial for Fan Zonai Devices and requires Ultrahand and the Paraglider.
  • The shrine contains one optional chest holding an Opal.
  • The intended route uses fans to create an upward gust, propel a small raft, raise a seesaw and power a vertical lift.
  • There is no combat encounter or boss inside the shrine.
  • Completing the shrine grants one Light of Blessing and activates the shrine as a fast-travel point.

Overview

Ishodag Shrine is a small but useful early-game Shrine of Light in the Quarry Ruins area of Hyrule Field. Its trial introduces one of the most versatile Zonai Devices: the Fan. The shrine teaches how to use upward wind for climbing, horizontal wind for propulsion and fan-powered lift platforms. It is located east of Carok Bridge and north-west of Lookout Landing, close to the route leading towards Hyrule Castle Town Ruins.

The shrine itself is the main point of interest here. Quarry Ruins, Carok Bridge, Lookout Landing and Hyrule Castle Town Ruins are neighbouring locations, not parts of Ishodag Shrine. They are included below only as navigation references.

Location and boundaries

Ishodag Shrine stands among the Quarry Ruins, an open ruin area in Hyrule Field. It is west of Hyrule Castle Town Ruins and north-west of Lookout Landing. Carok Bridge is the most useful nearby landmark, with the shrine described as being just east of the bridge.

Reaching Ishodag Shrine

The easiest approach is from Lookout Landing or from the road near Carok Bridge.

From Lookout Landing

The shrine is close enough to reach on foot early in the game, although the surrounding field can contain hostile monsters. If the map has not yet been revealed, climbing a nearby high point or using the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower makes the approach easier.

From Carok Bridge

This is usually the clearest route if the player is already travelling along the western approach to Hyrule Castle. The shrine is outdoors and does not require a cave entrance, quest trigger or special weather condition.

Access requirements

The trial is designed to be completed after Link has acquired the following abilities:

The early-game route normally provides both before Ishodag Shrine becomes a practical target. The shrine does not require a particular number of hearts, stamina upgrades, armour set or story dungeon completion.

---

From Lookout Landing

  1. 01
Leave Lookout Landing towards the west or north-west.
  2. 02
Travel across Hyrule Field towards the ruined structures around Quarry Ruins.
  3. 03
Look for the green shrine glow among the ruins.
  4. 04
Activate the shrine to add it to the map and create a fast-travel point.

From Carok Bridge

  1. 01
    Cross or approach Carok Bridge.
  2. 02
Search the ruins immediately to the east.
  3. 03
Ishodag Shrine is visible in the Quarry Ruins area.

Shrine layout and puzzle logic

Ishodag Shrine is a linear tutorial-style shrine divided into a series of fan demonstrations. The fans are generally placed inside the shrine for the player to use, so the intended solution does not require bringing Zonai Devices from outside.

You can activate a Fan by striking it with a weapon. Once activated, it continues operating until it runs out of power or is struck again to stop it. The exact arrangement of objects can be adjusted with Ultrahand, so the shrine allows some experimentation rather than requiring a single perfectly precise construction.

---

1. Ride the first upward gust

At the beginning of the shrine, find the Fan near the lower part of the first chamber.

The important point is the Fan’s orientation. If the wind is blowing sideways, Link will not gain enough height. The Fan should be placed flat enough that the air stream rises vertically.

Practical tip

You do not need to stand directly above the Fan. Jump slightly to one side, then glide into the centre of the updraft. This gives Link more room to adjust his position.

---

1. Ride the first upward gust: steps

  1. 01
Use Ultrahand to pick up the Fan.
  2. 02
Place it on the floor with its wind directed upwards.
  3. 03
    Activate it by striking it.
  4. 04
Jump above the Fan and open the Paraglider.
  5. 05
Let the gust carry Link to the higher ledge.

2. Build the small fan raft

At the upper level, find another Fan and a wooden platform near the water.

This is the shrine’s basic demonstration of horizontal propulsion. The platform functions as a small raft, while the Fan supplies forward thrust.

If the raft spins

The Fan may be attached off-centre or at an angle. Pick up the whole assembly with Ultrahand and reposition the Fan so that it sits squarely along one end of the platform. It is not necessary to build a complicated boat.

---

2. Build the small fan raft: steps

  1. 01
Pick up the Fan with Ultrahand.
  2. 02
Attach it to one end of the wooden platform.
  3. 03
Make sure the Fan’s wind points behind the platform rather than into it.
  4. 04
Place the completed assembly in the water.
  5. 05
    Climb onto the platform.
  6. 06
Strike the Fan to activate it.
  7. 07
Ride the platform across to the opposite side.

3. Raise the seesaw to reach the chest

On the far side of the water is a seesaw-like mechanism with a treasure chest positioned at the higher end.

The chest contains an Opal. This is the shrine’s only listed treasure chest.

Getting to the chest

The exact jump is forgiving. If the seesaw does not rise high enough, reposition the Fan closer to its underside or adjust the angle so that the wind pushes directly against the board. Link can then jump and glide towards the chest.

The chest is optional. Missing it does not prevent shrine completion, and the treasure can be collected before or after solving the final lift.

---

3. Raise the seesaw to reach the chest: steps

  1. 01
Take one of the available Fans.
  2. 02
Move to the lower end of the seesaw.
  3. 03
Attach the Fan beneath the lower side.
  4. 04
    Point the Fan upwards.
  5. 05
    Activate it.
  6. 06
Allow the upward pressure to raise or level the seesaw.
  7. 07
Use the resulting height to reach the chest.

4. Power the final lift

After collecting the chest, retrieve the Fans and find the vertical metal platform leading to the shrine’s exit.

The fans should be placed with their wind outlets directed downwards or their airflow arranged to push the platform upwards, depending on the orientation shown by the device’s grille. If the platform tilts, stop the Fans and reposition one of them closer to the centre.

The completed shrine grants a Light of Blessing and marks Ishodag Shrine as completed.

---

4. Power the final lift: steps

  1. 01
Attach two Fans to the underside of the platform.
  2. 02
Place them so that both produce upward wind.
  3. 03
    Stand on the platform.
  4. 04
Strike the Fans to activate them.
  5. 05
    Ride the lift upwards.
  6. 06
Step onto the upper ledge and examine the shrine terminal.
  7. 07
    Collect the Light of Blessing.

Rewards and inventory

The Opal is a fixed chest reward rather than a random drop. The Fans used in the trial are part of the shrine’s puzzle arrangement. They are not presented as a normal overworld device dispenser, and the shrine does not award a permanent Fan item after completion.

What to do with the Light of Blessing

Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either:

Ishodag Shrine therefore contributes to the wider heart and stamina upgrade system, but the exchange does not take place inside the shrine.

Enemies, bosses and hazards

Enemies

There is no combat encounter inside Ishodag Shrine. The trial contains no Construct, guardian-style enemy, mini-boss or boss.

The exterior route through Hyrule Field may still be dangerous depending on the player’s path and the current world state. Those overworld encounters belong to Hyrule Field and Quarry Ruins, not to the shrine itself.

Hazards

There is no gloom, extreme-temperature requirement or darkness mechanic inside the shrine.

---

Exploration checklist

Before leaving Ishodag Shrine, check that you have:

If the shrine remains partially marked, return to the altar and check that the Light of Blessing was actually collected. Some players have reported confusion when leaving after solving the mechanisms but before taking the final reward, so the altar interaction is the reliable completion point. The reported issue is player-reported rather than an established shrine mechanic.

---

Useful alternative solutions

The shrine’s physics allow some flexibility.

First room

Instead of placing the Fan exactly at the suggested location, you can position it anywhere that creates a strong vertical updraft. The main requirement is enough height to glide to the ledge.

Water crossing

The raft does not need to be built in one exact position. If the Fan is attached at an angle, the platform may turn or travel diagonally. Reattach it so that the wind pushes along the desired crossing direction.

Seesaw

The chest can be reached by raising the low side with a Fan. Depending on the angle, Link may also be able to use the Paraglider and nearby height to approach it. The intended method is the Fan-powered seesaw, but Ultrahand’s object positioning permits minor variations.

Final lift

Two Fans provide the intended lifting force. If the platform leans, attach the Fans symmetrically beneath it. There is no need for additional devices or outside materials.

These variations are not separate rewards or alternate shrine states. They are simply valid physics-based approaches within the same fixed shrine layout.

Nearby connections

Ishodag Shrine is well placed for early exploration.

Lookout Landing

Lookout Landing is the nearest major settlement and a natural starting point for the shrine. It provides early-game services, story progression and the Skyview Tower used to reveal the surrounding map. It is not part of the Ishodag Shrine area.

Carok Bridge

Carok Bridge is the most useful local navigation landmark. Guides commonly describe Ishodag Shrine as being just east of the bridge.

Hyrule Castle Town Ruins

The ruins lie to the east and are a separate exterior location. They are useful for orientation when approaching from the direction of Hyrule Castle and Lookout Landing.

Gadohsi Lightroot

Gadohsi Lightroot is listed as the shrine’s Depths counterpart. It is not an underground extension of Ishodag Shrine and does not form part of the shrine’s interior trial.

---

Lore and series continuity

Ishodag Shrine belongs to the Shrine of Light system introduced in Tears of the Kingdom. Its trial reflects the game’s expanded focus on Zonai Devices and construction-based problem solving. Unlike the Ancient Shrines of Breath of the Wild, Ishodag Shrine is built around Fans and Ultrahand rather than Sheikah technology.

It should not be confused with Ishto Soh Shrine, a different shrine from Breath of the Wild. The names are similar, but the locations, games, trial themes and rewards are separate. Ishto Soh Shrine appears in the Gerudo Highlands in Breath of the Wild, whereas Ishodag Shrine is in Hyrule Field in Tears of the Kingdom.

Continuity directory

This distinction matters when searching maps or walkthroughs, because results for the two shrines are easily mixed together.
