About this guide

Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the shrine’s puzzle, treasure chest and its relationship to the Mipha Court area. It does not spoil the main story beyond basic regional context.

Overview

Ihen-a Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It stands at Mipha Court, high on Ploymus Mountain, overlooking Zora’s Domain in the Lanayru Great Spring region. Its shrine trial, “Midair Perch”, teaches the practical use of Hover Stones, especially their ability to remain suspended in place while powered.

The shrine is a compact but useful lesson in combining Ultrahand, Ascend, environmental switches and suspended platforms. Its main route is not combat-focused. Instead, it asks Link to create temporary footholds, bridge gaps and launch himself across a wide opening while keeping a glowing orb in place.

Ihen-a Shrine is especially convenient during exploration of the Zora region because it provides a fast-travel point above Zora’s Domain. It is also close to the route used while investigating the regional phenomenon affecting Lanayru.

Location and boundaries

Lanayru Great Spring

Ihen-a Shrine belongs to the broad Lanayru Great Spring region. This is a large eastern Hyrule area containing Zora’s Domain, the surrounding mountains and waterways, several caves, nearby sky-island routes and the approaches to the Water Temple.

The shrine should not be confused with the wider Zora’s Domain settlement. Zora’s Domain is the principal urban area below the mountain, while Mipha Court is a separate elevated landmark above it. Ihen-a Shrine is located at Mipha Court rather than inside the settlement itself.

Ploymus Mountain

Ploymus Mountain rises immediately above Zora’s Domain. The shrine is positioned on the mountain’s upper slopes, giving Link a broad view down over the domain and the surrounding Lanayru landscape.

The mountain is also associated with the route toward Shatterback Point, the area where a Lynel can be found. That enemy encounter is nearby in the regional landscape but is not part of Ihen-a Shrine and is not required to complete it.

Mipha Court

Mipha Court is the immediate named subarea containing the shrine. It is an open, elevated stone area rather than a settlement with shops, houses or a resident population. Its importance is primarily geographical and historical, as it overlooks Zora’s Domain and is associated with Princess Mipha.

Neighbouring places not part of the shrine interior

These places form part of the wider regional route, but they should not be treated as subareas of Ihen-a Shrine.

Access and recommended routes

From Zora’s Domain

The most straightforward route is to travel upwards from Zora’s Domain towards Ploymus Mountain.

The climb is easier with stamina-restoring food or elixirs, although the exact route depends on how much of the mountain has already been explored. The Zora region’s persistent wet conditions can also make ordinary climbing unreliable. If the surfaces are slippery, use roads, ledges, Ascend points, climbing gear or a vehicle instead of trying to scale the entire mountain face.

From Upland Zorana

Approaching from the west or south through Upland Zorana can be more awkward because of steep cliffs and wet rock. This route is practical if Link is already exploring the surrounding caves or travelling between the Zora region and central Lanayru, but it is not usually the easiest first approach.

From the sky

A paraglider route from nearby sky islands can provide a quick descent towards Ploymus Mountain. This is useful after launching from a skyview tower or travelling through the Lanayru sky routes. Link should still aim for the mountain plateau rather than descending directly into Zora’s Domain.

Travel preparation

The shrine itself does not require special armour, elemental protection or a key item.

Ihen-a Shrine walkthrough

Trial: Midair Perch

The shrine’s central idea is simple: activated Hover Stones remain suspended in midair. Link can therefore use them as floating platforms, temporary steps and launch points.

The trial is primarily a test of positioning. You do not need to build a complicated machine, and many of the objects can be solved with simple Ultrahand arrangements.

Room 1: Reach the upper ledge

The Hover Stone does not need to be permanently attached to anything for this part. Its purpose is to create a temporary platform at the correct height.

Room 2: Activate the Hover Stone and cross the gap

The exact orientation of the panel matters less than ensuring that it reaches far enough for Link to cross. If the platform falls or drifts into an unhelpful position, recall it with Ultrahand and try again.

Room 3: Turn the bridge into a ramp

This section demonstrates that shrine objects do not always have a single intended orientation. A bridge can become a ramp if it is placed against the correct ledge.

Optional chest: 5 Arrows

In the next area, use the shrine’s elevated spaces to locate a ledge containing a treasure chest. The chest is not directly on the main route.

The arrows are a fixed shrine chest reward rather than a random drop. They are useful but not required for the final puzzle. The chest can be collected before completing the shrine’s orb mechanism.

Final room: Carry the glowing orb across

The important detail is that the orb must remain a separate object. Fusing it to the platform can prevent the shrine mechanism from recognising it correctly. Thonky’s walkthrough likewise directs the player to place the orb on the Hover Stone without attaching it, then use the switch to launch both Link and the orb across the gap.

---

Room 1: Reach the upper ledge

  1. 01
Enter the shrine and identify the Hover Stones in the opening room.
  2. 02
Use Ultrahand to move one of the Hover Stones close to the raised ledge.
  3. 03
Position it so that Link can stand on it or reach it with Ascend.
  4. 04
Use Ascend through the Hover Stone to reach the upper level.
  5. 05
    Continue into the next section.

Room 2: Activate the Hover Stone and cross the gap

  1. 01
Find the flat metal panel leaning against the wall.
  2. 02
Attach the panel to the top of a Hover Stone with Ultrahand.
  3. 03
Strike the Hover Stone or otherwise activate it.
  4. 04
Move the resulting platform into the gap.
  5. 05
Use it as a bridge or stepping point to cross safely.

Room 3: Turn the bridge into a ramp

  1. 01
Take the bridge or platform from the previous area.
  2. 02
Rotate it so that it rests at an angle.
  3. 03
Use the angled object as a ramp towards the next upper section.
  4. 04
Climb or walk up it and continue forward.

Optional chest: 5 Arrows

  1. 01
Activate Sensor+ if you want help locating it.
  2. 02
Move a Hover Stone beneath or near the chest’s ledge.
  3. 03
Use Ascend through the Hover Stone.
  4. 04
Open the chest to obtain 5 Arrows.

Final room: Carry the glowing orb across

  1. 01
Locate the glowing orb and the Hover Stone positioned near the square stone structure.
  2. 02
Do not fuse the orb to the Hover Stone.
  3. 03
Place the orb on top of the Hover Stone.
  4. 04
Stand on the Hover Stone with the orb.
  5. 05
Activate the glowing switch beside the stone structure.
  6. 06
The switch propels the Hover Stone forward across the gap.
  7. 07
    Retrieve the orb after landing.
  8. 08
Place it into the floor switch if it has fallen away or is not already correctly positioned.
  9. 09
    Pass through the opened bars.
  10. 10
Examine the dragon ring at the end of the shrine to receive the Light of Blessing.

Puzzle mechanics and practical tips

Hover Stones

Hover Stones are the defining object of the shrine. Once activated, they stay in position rather than immediately dropping. This allows Link to:

If a Hover Stone is in the wrong position, use Ultrahand to move it rather than trying to climb around it.

Ultrahand positioning

The shrine is forgiving if objects are placed approximately correctly. Prioritise:

You do not need to reproduce a particular construction perfectly.

Ascend

Ascend is often more useful than climbing in this shrine. When a Hover Stone is suspended beneath a ledge, Link can rise through it and emerge on top. This avoids the need to build a staircase or jump manually.

The glowing orb

The orb is a shrine puzzle object, not a collectible. Keep it unattached until the final launch. If it rolls away, retrieve it with Ultrahand and place it back on the Hover Stone.

---

Rewards and completion

Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either an additional Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel. The shrine does not award a weapon, armour piece, crystal, Zonai device capsule or unique quest item.

The 5 Arrows are the only treasure chest reward reported for the shrine’s interior route.

Characters, enemies and facilities

Characters

No named character is stationed inside Ihen-a Shrine. The shrine is an isolated puzzle space.

The wider surrounding area is connected with the Zora storyline, including:

These characters belong to the wider Lanayru and Zora narrative, not to the shrine interior itself.

Enemies

Ihen-a Shrine contains no combat trial and no shrine boss. Its challenge is environmental and mechanical.

Enemies may appear on the route to Mipha Court, particularly around the broader Ploymus Mountain and Zora-region landscape. Those encounters are separate from the shrine and do not affect its completion.

Shops and services

There are no shops, inns, merchants, stables or crafting facilities at Mipha Court or inside Ihen-a Shrine. Zora’s Domain below the mountain is the nearest major settlement for ordinary services.

Do not treat the shrine’s green activation sigil as a shop or service point. It only enables fast travel after activation.

Lore and context

The name Mipha Court connects the location with Princess Mipha, the Zora champion remembered from Breath of the Wild. The elevated court overlooks Zora’s Domain, making it a fitting location for a shrine associated with the region’s history.

Ihen-a Shrine does not contain a direct story scene or written explanation of Mipha. Its connection is environmental and geographical rather than a dedicated narrative sequence.

The shrine’s technology also reflects one of *Tears of the Kingdom*’s recurring themes: old sacred spaces are now solved through the interaction of ancient shrine mechanisms and modern Zonai abilities. Here, Ultrahand and Ascend are more important than conventional combat equipment.

Research and scope notes

This guide covers the Ihen-a Shrine interior and its immediate named setting, Mipha Court on Ploymus Mountain. It treats Zora’s Domain, Shatterback Point, the Ancient Zora Waterworks and the Water Temple as neighbouring or connected locations rather than as parts of the shrine.

The shrine’s location, trial name, puzzle sequence, chest reward and Light of Blessing are supported by the cited walkthrough and regional shrine references. Some published coordinate lists differ by a few vertical or horizontal units, so the guide uses an approximate coordinate range rather than presenting one value as uniquely authoritative. Further in-game map verification would be needed to document every decorative object or incidental environmental feature around Mipha Court.
