Key takeaways

  • Gatakis Shrine is inside Rito Village, not a separate cave or shrine quest location.
  • The shrine’s trial is Ride the Winds and requires the Paraglider.
  • The main route is a controlled descent through wind currents, laser emitters and a breakable ice barrier.
  • The optional chest is guarded by Soldier Constructs and contains a Construct Bow, with the exact bow strength reported as variable by guides.
  • The shrine’s final reward is one Light of Blessing.
  • The nearby Rito Village Chasm is a separate location It is reached outside the shrine by travelling south-east from Gatakis Shrine and gliding through an opening below the village.

Note

Base game guide. This article covers Gatakis Shrine itself, including its entrance platform, internal chambers, puzzle route, enemies and chest. Rito Village, the surrounding Lake Totori area and the wider Tabantha Frontier are treated as neighbouring locations rather than being folded into the shrine’s boundaries.

Overview

Gatakis Shrine, titled “Ride the Winds”, is a Shrine of Light located at the lower level of Rito Village in the Tabantha Frontier. Its entrance is at approximately (-3650, 1805, 0168), although some map references give nearby values such as (-3652, 1806, 0183) depending on the point measured.

The shrine is a compact aerial-navigation challenge built around the same tool that allows Link to reach it: the Paraglider. Rather than using Ultrahand or a conventional switch puzzle, Link must ride strong updrafts, steer between moving hazards, break through an ice floor and glide through a concealed opening before returning upwards to the altar.

Gatakis Shrine is especially relevant early in a Hebra visit because it sits in Rito Village, close to shops, an inn, the village Goddess Statue and the main route for the Tulin of Rito Village storyline. It is not, however, part of the Wind Temple, and completing it does not require finishing the regional phenomenon.

Location and boundaries

Where Gatakis Shrine is

Gatakis Shrine stands within Rito Village, the Rito settlement built around a large central pillar in Lake Totori. The shrine is at the village’s lower elevation, beneath the main upper walkways and living areas. It is visible as part of the settlement rather than hidden behind a shrine quest or buried in a cave.

The shrine’s scope ends at its own entrance and interior. The following are nearby but separate:

This distinction matters because several useful facilities and quests are close to the shrine, but none forms part of the shrine trial itself.

Reaching the entrance

If Link is already in Rito Village, follow the lower village platforms and wooden walkways around the central pillar. Gatakis Shrine is at the lower part of the settlement, rather than at the top near the village leader’s living area.

The shrine can be activated as soon as Link reaches it. The main practical requirement is access to the Paraglider, since the trial is designed around gliding and the shrine cannot be completed through ordinary climbing or walking alone. Thonky specifically identifies the Paraglider as necessary for the wind-based route.

Suggested route through the surrounding village

For a first visit, a sensible order is:

Rito Village includes an inn, a general shop and an armour shop. The village guide records Swallow’s Roost, The Slippery Falcon and Brazen Beak as distinct businesses, with their operators changing depending on whether the blizzard is active.

Suggested route through the surrounding village

  1. 01
Activate Gatakis Shrine at the lower level.
  2. 02
Complete the shrine before climbing through the rest of Rito Village.
  3. 03
Visit the village Goddess Statue if you have four Light of Blessings available.
  4. 04
Check the inn and shops for cold-weather preparation.
  5. 05
Continue with the Rito storyline or explore the village’s upper platforms.
  6. 06
Treat the Rito Village Chasm as a separate exploration stop rather than assuming it is part of Gatakis Shrine.

Shrine layout and puzzle logic

Gatakis Shrine is essentially a vertical wind tunnel with several open chambers. The intended movement is mostly downward at first, followed by a long upward glide near the end.

There is no conventional locked-door sequence involving switches, rotating blocks or Zonai construction. The challenge is one of positioning, timing and maintaining enough control in the air.

Walkthrough: Ride the Winds

1. Enter the first wind current

From the shrine entrance, move forward and jump into the open space. Deploy the Paraglider and allow the strong wind to carry Link across the initial gap.

Do not hold the Paraglider open earlier than necessary if you are still on the starting platform. The useful current is below and ahead, so jump first and then glide into it.

2. Glide through the Beam Emitters

As the wind carries Link onwards, several Beam Emitters fire across the route. Their beams create narrow gaps through which Link must pass.

Keep Link’s movement gentle rather than making large turns. Watch the gaps between the beams and adjust left or right while continuing to ride the wind. If Link is struck, he may lose altitude or fall, so avoid trying to rush directly through the centre of the hazard field.

Thonky describes the sequence as gliding between the beam gaps before reaching a round hole in the floor.

3. Drop through the circular opening

At the end of the beam section, look for the round opening below. Drop through it and pass the rotating barrier.

You do not need to fight the current here. The important task is to keep descending while avoiding the spinning obstacle. If you begin to drift away from the opening, briefly deploy the Paraglider to correct your position, then release it again to continue falling.

4. Break through the ice

Further below is a circular sheet of ice. Link must break through it to reach the lower chamber.

If you miss the timing, Link can also land on the ice and jump repeatedly until it breaks. This alternative is noted by Thonky, which also confirms that the ice can be broken with a dive.

The ice is a progression barrier, not an optional secret. The shrine’s lower section and its chest are below it.

5. Explore the Soldier Construct chamber

Below the ice are several ledges occupied by Soldier Constructs. Defeat them if you want the shrine chest and a safer route through the room.

The constructs are positioned on separate ledges, so avoid dropping blindly into the middle of the chamber. You can:

One ledge contains the shrine chest. Guide sources describe the reward as a Strong Construct Bow, while another walkthrough calls it a random Construct Bow. The safest practical description is that the chest contains a Construct Bow whose exact strength may vary by guide or game state.

6. Find the small wall opening

After dealing with the enemies, look towards the wall between the ledges. There is a small opening that can be easy to overlook.

Glide through this gap. It is not simply a decorative recess: it leads back into the vertical wind route and is the intended way to reach the shrine’s upper end.

If Link hits the wall, regain height with the nearby wind and try again. Approach the opening squarely rather than attempting to turn sharply at the last moment.

7. Ride the wind back upwards

Once through the opening, use the updraft to climb back towards the top of the shrine. Keep the Paraglider open and steer as necessary so that Link stays inside the rising current.

The final ascent is longer than the earlier drops, so avoid wasting stamina by repeatedly closing and reopening the Paraglider without need. The wind does most of the work. At the top, land by the altar and examine the shrine’s dragon ring.

8. Claim the Light of Blessing

Examine the altar to complete Gatakis Shrine and receive a Light of Blessing. No shrine quest is required, and there is no separate boss encounter.

2. Glide through the Beam Emitters: A useful approach is

  1. 01
Face in the direction of travel.
  2. 02
Deploy the Paraglider only once Link is safely in the current.
  3. 03
    Make small horizontal corrections.
  4. 04
Pass through the gaps between the beams.
  5. 05
Keep looking ahead for the circular opening in the floor.

4. Break through the ice: The most reliable method is

  1. 01
    Centre Link over the ice.
  2. 02
Press the dive command while falling.
  3. 03
Continue through the ice into the room below.

Collectibles and rewards

Shrine inventory

The chest is optional in the narrow sense that Link can reach the altar without collecting every chest, but it is worth taking because it is the shrine’s only recorded treasure chest. The lower chamber also contains the shrine’s Soldier Constructs.

What is not inside the shrine

The following should not be counted as Gatakis Shrine collectibles:

These belong to Rito Village or its surrounding area. The Rito Village directory records several Korok Seeds and overworld chests close to the shrine, but they are not part of the shrine interior.

Enemies and hazards

Enemies

The Soldier Constructs occupy ledges in the lower chamber. They are ordinary shrine enemies rather than a miniboss or named opponent. The available walkthrough evidence confirms multiple Soldier Constructs and places the chest among their ledges.

Environmental hazards

The shrine does not require cold-resistance armour once Link is inside. Cold protection is relevant to travelling around Hebra and Rito Village during the blizzard, not to the internal shrine puzzle itself. Rito Village sources identify cold-weather clothing as important for the settlement during the blizzard and describe the Snowquill Set as the village armour-shop stock.

Nearby connections

Rito Village

Gatakis Shrine belongs to Rito Village’s location hierarchy. The village is a vertical settlement built around a large pillar in Lake Totori and is home to the Rito. Its named points of interest include Revali’s Landing, Swallow’s Roost, Vah Medoh’s Perch and the Rito Village Chasm.

The shrine is particularly useful as a fast-travel point because it is located low in the village, near the approach and lower walkways.

Rito Village Chasm

The Rito Village Chasm is not part of Gatakis Shrine. It lies beneath the settlement and is reached from outside the shrine by travelling south-east from Gatakis Shrine, jumping from the ledge and gliding through a small circular opening. The chasm connects to the Depths and is relevant to the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan questline.

Other Rito Village facilities

The following named facilities are nearby but separate:

Swallow’s Roost offers standard and enhanced resting options. The Slippery Falcon sells groceries and weapons, including Cane Sugar and Goat Butter. Brazen Beak sells the Snowquill Set, which provides Cold Resistance. Their operators and stock context can change after the village blizzard is resolved.

---

Progression and missability

Gatakis Shrine is available as a normal Shrine of Light and does not depend on completing the Rito regional phenomenon. The village’s wider state changes when the blizzard is resolved, with different adults returning to their usual roles and several quests becoming available or changing context.

Permanently missable content

No permanent missable shrine reward is identified in the available sources. The shrine chest and Light of Blessing remain obtainable after the Rito storyline changes the village.

State-dependent nearby content

These are changes to Rito Village, not alterations to Gatakis Shrine’s internal puzzle.
