About this guide

Scope note: This guide treats Rito Village itself and its directly attached facilities as the primary location. The Flight Range, Hebra Mountains, Tabantha Frontier, Lucky Clover Gazette, Tabantha Bridge Stable, Snowfield Stable, and the Tabantha Sky Archipelago are neighbouring or connected locations, not parts of the village. They are included where they affect travel, quests or progression, but their independent directories are kept separate.

About this guide

Overview

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, base game

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, base game

Introduction

Rito Village is the Rito homeland in the north-west of Hyrule, built on a group of tall, hollow rock pillars rising from Lake Totori in the Tabantha Frontier. In Tears of the Kingdom, it is the first of the four major regional settlements that the game strongly encourages Link to visit. The village is suffering from an unnatural, seemingly endless blizzard, food supplies are becoming scarce and many of its inhabitants are struggling to fly safely in the extreme weather.

The village is not only a shop-and-rest stop. It is the starting point for the main quest Tulin of Rito Village, which leads through the Hebra skies to the Wind Temple. Completing that storyline changes the weather around the village, advances Tulin’s role as a Sage and unlocks one of the most useful exploration abilities in the game.

Rito Village also contains a shrine, two permanent shops, an inn, several side quests, a large collection of named residents and a number of story-dependent changes. Its vertical layout makes it easy to miss buildings and NPCs, particularly if you only visit the lower platform around the shrine.

Geography and boundaries

Rito Village stands on and between several enormous stone columns in Lake Totori. Wooden platforms, ladders, bridges and ramps connect the settlement’s different levels. The village is therefore more vertical than most Hyrule settlements. The lower levels contain the shrine and much of the practical infrastructure, while the higher platforms contain the chief’s residence, family homes and story-related areas.

The immediate village boundary is best understood as the built-up settlement around the lake. The snowy roads leading south towards Tabantha Bridge Stable, the mountain paths leading north towards the Flight Range and the wider Lake Totori shoreline are surrounding territory rather than village subareas.

The Gatakis Shrine is on the lower western side of the village, below the higher shop platforms. Its position makes it an especially useful return point because Link can climb, glide or use Ascend to reach several upper levels quickly.

Village subareas and attached places

The game does not divide Rito Village into formal map subareas in the way that some dungeons are divided. For navigation, the following practical divisions are useful:

The Flight Range should be treated separately. It is a training ground in the Hebra Mountains and is reached by following the quest route north-east from the village. Kaneli’s later flight-training quest is listed as taking place at the Flight Range, not in the village.

Reaching Rito Village

From Lookout Landing and central Hyrule

The conventional overland route leads north-west through Hyrule Field and Hyrule Ridge, then into the Tabantha Frontier. One practical route follows the roads towards New Serenne Stable and then west or north-west towards Tabantha Bridge Stable before continuing into the snowy region. The road approach is safer for players who have not yet improved their map coverage or stamina.

From central Hyrule, weather becomes progressively colder as the route climbs. Wear cold-resistant armour, prepare cold-resistance meals or use elixirs before entering the higher passes.

From Tabantha Bridge Stable

Tabantha Bridge Stable is one of the most convenient staging points for the village. From there, follow the road north-west through the Tabantha Frontier. The route passes snowy hills, enemy camps and open areas where visibility can deteriorate during the blizzard.

This route also makes it easy to combine a visit to Rito Village with nearby activities at the stable, although stable quests and facilities belong to Tabantha Bridge Stable, not to Rito Village.

From the sky

Once the Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower or another nearby tower has revealed the region, gliding towards Rito Village is possible. The village’s tall rock pillars are conspicuous from the air, but the blizzard can make landing awkward. Use the large wooden platforms and shrine area as visual targets rather than aiming for the highest pillar.

Sky travel is particularly useful if Link has already obtained extra stamina, reliable cold resistance and enough height to cross the lake safely. It is not necessary for a first visit.

Major progression: Tulin of Rito Village

The main village storyline begins with the regional investigation into the blizzard. Link speaks with the Rito leadership and is directed towards Tulin and the Flight Range. The quest eventually leads into the Stormwind Ark, then the Wind Temple.

The exact order of conversations can vary depending on how much of the surrounding area Link has explored, but the core progression is stable:

The Wind Temple is a separate dungeon in the Hebra sky, not a building within Rito Village. Its storyline is nevertheless the village’s central activity. The quest is the game’s first major regional phenomenon in the suggested progression route.

Practical preparation

The Snowquill armour set is the most convenient permanent solution, but it is not the only one. Cold-resistance meals and elixirs can cover the journey if rupees are limited.

Wind Temple and Tulin’s ability

After the Wind Temple sequence, Tulin becomes a Sage companion. His ability creates a forward gust of wind while gliding. It is useful for:

The ability is especially valuable around Hebra and the western sky islands, but it remains useful throughout the base game.

Major progression: Tulin of Rito Village: steps

  1. 01
Enter Rito Village and investigate the blizzard.
  2. 02
Speak with the village leadership and relevant Rito characters.
  3. 03
    Travel towards the Flight Range.
  4. 04
Find Tulin and help recover his lost bow.
  5. 05
Follow Tulin through the storm and reach the floating Stormwind Ark.
  6. 06
    Activate the Wind Temple terminals.
  7. 07
    Defeat the temple boss.
  8. 08
Return to the village and complete the regional aftermath.

Buildings, shops and services

Gatakis Shrine

Gatakis Shrine is the village’s shrine and fast-travel checkpoint. Its challenge is Ride the Winds, which uses the village’s strong air currents and paraglider movement. The shrine is located low in the settlement and is easy to overlook when approaching from the upper platforms.

It is not necessary to complete the village storyline before activating Gatakis Shrine.

The Slippery Falcon

The Slippery Falcon is Rito Village’s general store. It sells cooking ingredients and basic supplies. Its stock includes ingredients such as Sunshrooms, Oil Jars, Goat Butter, Cane Sugar and Tabantha Wheat, although exact availability and quantities should be checked at the counter rather than assumed from the shop’s name.

The store is also connected to village side activities involving the Rito children and cooking.

Brazen Beak

Brazen Beak is the village’s armour shop. It is run by Kheel and is positioned higher in the settlement than the lower shrine and general-store area. The shop sells Rito-style cold-weather equipment, including the Snowquill set.

The Snowquill pieces provide cold resistance. Wearing more pieces increases protection against colder environments, making the set particularly useful for the Hebra Mountains and the Wind Temple route.

The exact order depends on the rest of Link’s armour collection and available rupees. Players who already have reliable cold-resistance meals may buy one piece first and return for the rest later.

Swallow’s Roost

Swallow’s Roost is the village inn. It is a rest facility rather than a general shop. The name and location are easy to confuse with The Slippery Falcon, but they are separate businesses. The inn provides a place to sleep and recover, while the general store sells ingredients and supplies.

Buildings and named facilities directory

The chief’s residence, family homes and platforms are not shops, and the existence of a named building does not imply a separate purchasable service.

Brazen Beak: A sensible buying order is

  1. 01
    Snowquill Tunic.
  2. 02
    Snowquill Trousers.
  3. 03
    Snowquill Headdress.

Residents and characters

Rito Village’s main residents include the village leadership, Tulin’s family, shopkeepers, children and villagers involved in local quests. Story characters may move location after the regional quest, so their pre- and post-Wind Temple positions can differ.

Leadership and story-associated residents

Kaneli’s role changes during the course of the game. After his retirement, he becomes involved in flight training at the Flight Range rather than serving as the active village chief.

Residents and ordinary NPCs

The following named Rito are associated with the village in Tears of the Kingdom:

Some characters are encountered at different heights or move during quests. In particular, children and shop staff may not remain in their initial positions after conversations or quest completion. The village directory is therefore more useful as a list of people to check than as a guarantee that every character will stand in one place at every stage.

Quests and activities

The White Bird’s Guidance

The White Bird’s Guidance is a shrine quest connected with Rito Village. It begins after speaking with the appropriate village resident and following a clue involving a white bird. The objective leads Link to a hidden shrine location in the surrounding Hebra area, not to a second shrine inside the village. The quest is associated with Wao-os Shrine.

The shrine is outside the village boundary, so it should be recorded separately from Gatakis Shrine.

Treasure of the Secret Springs

This side quest is connected with Tulin and Harth’s research into a passage about three secret hot springs. It sends Link into the snowy caves north-west of Rito Village, where blocked water channels must be cleared. The reward is the Vah Medoh Divine Helm, a piece of equipment associated with the Rito Divine Beast from Breath of the Wild.

Bring Bomb Flowers, rock-breaking weapons or other methods of destroying stone. Fire-based items are useful for melting ice around the cave entrance and nearby passages.

Legacy of the Rito

Legacy of the Rito is a post-story quest associated with Teba. It concerns the reconstruction or replacement of an important Rito weapon and rewards the Great Eagle Bow. The quest is separate from the main Wind Temple reward and should not be confused with obtaining Tulin’s Sage ability.

Because the Great Eagle Bow requires specific materials, keep valuable Rito-related equipment and gems rather than selling everything immediately after the regional quest. The quest’s requirements should be read directly from Teba’s dialogue, since the necessary materials are more specific than a generic bow repair.

Molli the Fletcher’s Quest

Molli the Fletcher’s Quest is a short village side quest that rewards arrows. It is associated with Molli and is useful early in the game when arrow supplies are limited. The quest is recorded independently from the main Rito storyline.

Kaneli’s Flight Training

Although linked to the village’s former chief, Kaneli’s Flight Training takes place at the Flight Range. It is therefore a connected activity rather than a village-proper quest. The training involves hitting targets while gliding and rewards a Purple Rupee according to quest listings.

Items and useful pickups

Fixed and shop-based items

The most reliable village resources are those obtained from shops and quests:

The general store’s stock is fixed shop inventory rather than random ground loot, although quantities and replenishment follow the game’s normal shop rules.

Local exploration

Search the village’s upper ledges, lower platforms and behind buildings for:

Because the village is built vertically, do not assume that clearing one platform means the area is fully searched. Glide around the outside of the rock pillars and inspect ledges below the main walkways.

No claim of a complete Korok or chest directory is made here without a verified child-area inventory. The village contains exploration content, but the exact total should be checked against a dedicated map database before using this guide as a 100-percent checklist.

Enemies and hazards

Rito Village itself is generally safe once entered. The more serious threats are found on the approaches, in the surrounding Hebra wilderness and along the route to the Flight Range.

Before the village storyline is complete, the weather makes cold resistance a practical requirement. After the regional phenomenon is resolved, the immediate village environment becomes much more comfortable, although Hebra’s natural cold remains in the wider region.

Suggested exploration route

For a first visit, the following order minimises backtracking:

Suggested exploration route: steps

  1. 01
Activate Gatakis Shrine on the lower village platform.
  2. 02
Walk through the lower and central platforms, noting the inn and general store.
  3. 03
Visit Brazen Beak and check the Snowquill armour prices.
  4. 04
Speak with Kaneli, Teba, Saki and Tulin.
  5. 05
Visit other residents, particularly Molli, Harth, Laissa and Bedoli, to reveal available quests.
  6. 06
    Buy or prepare cold resistance.
  7. 07
Begin Tulin of Rito Village and travel towards the Flight Range.
  8. 08
Return after the Wind Temple to check for changed dialogue and newly available quests.
  9. 09
Complete The White Bird’s Guidance and Treasure of the Secret Springs.
  10. 10
Finish Legacy of the Rito and collect any remaining shop or residential pickups.
  11. 11
Use the village as a base for Hebra exploration, including the nearby stables and Gazette, while keeping those locations in separate completion lists.

Progression changes

Rito Village has a clear before-and-after state.

After the Wind Temple

The game does not permanently lock the village into one state, but NPC positions and available dialogue can change according to story progress. If a quest-giver appears to be missing, check the upper platforms, the chief’s residence and the Flight Range before concluding that the quest is unavailable.

Lore and continuity

Rito Village continues the settlement introduced in Breath of the Wild. Its architecture, shops and family relationships provide visible continuity, while the village’s political and family circumstances have changed by the time of Tears of the Kingdom. Tulin is no longer simply a child NPC, but a central young hero whose actions drive the regional storyline.

The Vah Medoh Divine Helm quest is an especially direct connection to the previous game. The item refers back to the Divine Beast and the Rito Champion associated with it, while the Great Eagle Bow quest continues the village’s tradition of preserving important Rito weapons.

Rito are also part of a long-running Zelda continuity that includes The Wind Waker, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The precise relationship between the Rito of these games and the Zora is not resolved in Tears of the Kingdom, so it should not be presented as a settled fact.
