Introduction

Gasas Shrine, also called “Well-Timed Cuts”, is a surface Shrine of Light at the western end of Tanagar Canyon, in the wider Hebra and Hyrule Ridge area. It is not a settlement or a broad regional zone. For this guide, the scope is limited to the shrine itself, its immediately relevant entrance area and its directly associated map connection, Sasag Lightroot in the Depths.

The shrine is a compact Ultrahand puzzle built around suspended objects, rope-cutting, counterweights and timed use of Recall. Its title is literal: several objects must be cut loose at the right moment, especially the final orb. The trial is accessible without a shrine quest, but bringing arrows is strongly recommended because the intended solutions repeatedly require Link to sever ropes from a distance.

Location and boundaries

Gasas Shrine stands at the west end of Tanagar Canyon, southwest of Tabantha Bridge Stable. Some guides describe it as southwest of Hyrule Ridge, while others classify it under Hebra. These descriptions refer to the same remote surface area rather than separate shrines.

The shrine itself is the green-glowing entrance structure and its interior trial. The canyon, Tabantha Bridge Stable and Sasag Lightroot are neighbouring or connected landmarks, not subareas inside Gasas Shrine.

Named locations directly associated with Gasas Shrine

The shrine’s map position is commonly listed around -4153, 0098, 0055. Other references give nearby values such as -4151, 0099, 0040 or -4152, 0098, 0040, which appear to reflect different coordinate points around the entrance and surrounding ground rather than a different location.

Access and preparation

Gasas Shrine has no reported prerequisite shrine quest or story lock. The main practical difficulty is reaching the remote canyon safely. From Tabantha Bridge Stable, travel south-west towards the canyon and then follow the terrain towards its western end. A horse, climbing equipment or a paraglider route can all be useful, but the shrine does not require a particular sage ability according to the available walkthroughs.

Arrows are the most important preparation. The shrine’s ropes can be cut by shooting them, and the two treasure chests are suspended in positions where ordinary melee attacks are impractical.

Shrine layout and puzzle principles

The interior is divided into three functional stages:

The shrine is not a combat trial. Its challenge comes from positioning objects so that they form temporary platforms, bridges, ramps and counterweights. The order in which objects are manipulated matters because some pieces are needed again later.

Shrine layout and puzzle principles: steps

  1. 01
An opening room with a suspended metal cube.
  2. 02
A larger construction room containing two metal plates, a large cube and two hanging chests.
  3. 03
A final chamber with a suspended orb and the altar entrance.

Full walkthrough

1. Drop the first cube

Enter the first chamber and look ahead for a large cube hanging from a rope.

The purpose of this arrangement is to gain access to the upper ledge. The two cubes do not need to be joined in one exact orientation, provided the resulting shape gives Link a route upwards.

2. Build the first bridge

At the upper level, find the two long metal plates.

Keep the bridge intact. It is needed for both treasure chests, and dismantling it unnecessarily can make the next section more awkward.

3. Collect the Large Zonai Charge

On the far side, reposition the metal-plate bridge beneath the nearby hanging chest.

The chest contains a Large Zonai Charge. This is optional for progression, but it is the first treasure chest and should be collected before moving on.

4. Use the bridge as a counterweighted ramp

The second chest is hanging across a gap on the left side of the room. It contains the key required for the locked door.

This chest contains a Small Key. The key is a required progression item, not optional treasure. The exact angle may take a few attempts, but the important features are a stable bridge, a counterweight and an end positioned beneath the chest.

5. Open the locked door

Use the Small Key on the locked door leading to the final chamber.

The key chest is therefore part of the main solution. If the door will not open, return to the previous room and check the chest suspended over the left-hand gap. The first chest contains the Large Zonai Charge, while the second contains the Small Key.

6. Solve the final orb puzzle

In the final chamber, locate the orb hanging from a rope.

There are two closely related ways to solve this section.

Reliable Recall method

The timing is most forgiving if Recall is used immediately after cutting the rope. If the orb falls, it can usually be repositioned with Ultrahand, provided it has not dropped somewhere inaccessible.

Swing-and-drop method

GameSpot notes that the orb may roll towards the receptacle by itself if the rope is cut at the right moment, but manual placement is more dependable.

Placing the orb opens the way to the shrine altar.

7. Claim the reward

Proceed through the opened passage and examine the altar to receive:

The shrine contains no boss and no combat encounter.

1. Drop the first cube

  1. 01
Shoot the rope with an arrow.
  2. 02
Let the cube fall into the gap.
  3. 03
Use the fallen cube as a platform to cross.
  4. 04
Pick it up with Ultrahand and carry it to the other cube near the raised ledge.
  5. 05
Attach the two cubes so that they create a climbable arrangement against the ledge.
  6. 06
Use Ascend through the higher cube, or climb onto the structure if your positioning makes that possible.

2. Build the first bridge

  1. 01
Join the plates along their short ends.
  2. 02
Carry the combined object to the next gap.
  3. 03
Lay it across the gap as a bridge.
  4. 04
    Cross to the opposite side.

3. Collect the Large Zonai Charge

  1. 01
Place the bridge so the chest will land on it when its rope is cut.
  2. 02
    Shoot the chest’s rope.
  3. 03
Open the chest after it drops onto the bridge.

4. Use the bridge as a counterweighted ramp

  1. 01
Take the large cube near the wall.
  2. 02
Attach it to one side of the metal bridge.
  3. 03
Move the combined structure to the left-hand gap.
  4. 04
Position the bridge so that its unweighted end extends towards the hanging chest.
  5. 05
Make sure the large cube acts as a counterweight and prevents the bridge from dropping into the abyss.
  6. 06
Shoot the rope holding the second chest.
  7. 07
Allow the chest to fall onto the bridge, then open it.

Reliable Recall method

  1. 01
Use Ultrahand to pull the orb towards Link as far as possible.
  2. 02
Release it so that it swings back.
  3. 03
Shoot the rope while the orb is in a useful position above solid ground.
  4. 04
Immediately activate Recall to reverse or suspend its movement.
  5. 05
While the orb is still accessible, use Ultrahand to carry it to the receptacle.
  6. 06
    Place it in the socket.

Swing-and-drop method: Alternatively

  1. 01
Pull the orb towards you with Ultrahand.
  2. 02
Release it and wait for it to swing over solid ground.
  3. 03
Cut the rope as it passes over the safe area.
  4. 04
    Pick it up with Ultrahand.
  5. 05
Place it in the large receptacle.

Progression reward

The Small Key is a fixed progression item. The Large Zonai Charge and Light of Blessing are also fixed rewards rather than random drops.

Nearby connections

Gasas Shrine’s most relevant external connection is Sasag Lightroot, its listed Depths counterpart. This does not mean the shrine descends directly into the Depths or that the two locations share an interior. They are separate map locations linked by the game’s surface-to-Depths shrine and Lightroot relationship.

The shrine is also useful as a travel point for the western end of Tanagar Canyon and the surrounding Hebra approach, particularly if it is found while travelling between the Tabantha and Hyrule Ridge areas.
