Key takeaways
- U-nazohso Lightroot is in the Hebra Mountains Depths, not on the surface and not inside the North Lomei Depths Labyrinth.
- Its surface counterpart is Oshozan-u Shrine.
- Reported map coordinates are approximately −1,403, 3,678, −712 Some map references give a slightly different vertical value, such as −733, so use the map position rather than treating the Z coordinate as exact across sources.
- Activating it lights the nearby Depths, uncovers local map data and unlocks a Travel Point.
- It is useful as a navigation marker near the north-western Depths and as a route target when comparing the Depths map with surface Shrine locations.
- No independently verified child locations, resident NPCs, businesses, special facilities or unique fixed reward have been identified within the Lightroot’s immediate scope.
About this guide
Scope: Base game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Spoilers: This guide discusses Depths exploration, Lightroot functions and the corresponding surface Shrine. It does not spoil the ending.
Overview
U-nazohso Lightroot is a single Lightroot in the Hebra Mountains Depths, in the north-western part of the Depths beneath the Hebra region. It is not the name of a broader district, mine, labyrinth or settlement. The location’s practical importance is straightforward but valuable: activating it illuminates the surrounding Depths, reveals nearby terrain on the Purah Pad map and creates a permanent fast-travel point.
Its surface counterpart is Oshozan-u Shrine. As with other Lightroots, the relationship is a reversed-name pairing rather than a claim that the Lightroot and Shrine form one connected dungeon or interior. U-nazohso Lightroot itself contains no shrine trial, named characters, shop, quest hub or separate subarea identified as part of the location.
Location and boundaries
U-nazohso Lightroot is a point location rather than a broad named region. It belongs to the Hebra Mountains Depths, one of the regional divisions used for the underground map. It should therefore be kept separate from nearby but distinct landmarks such as the North Lomei Depths Labyrinth, the Abandoned Hebra Mine and other Hebra-area Lightroots.
A useful nearby reference is the North Lomei Depths Labyrinth. One location guide places U-nazohso Lightroot north-west of that labyrinth, while other map listings identify the same general area through its coordinates. This does not make the labyrinth a subarea of U-nazohso Lightroot. It is a neighbouring landmark and should be treated as a separate destination.

The following are neighbouring or associated locations, not confirmed subareas of the Lightroot:

What activating the Lightroot does
Approach the glowing root and interact with its base. Once activated, U-nazohso Lightroot:
Lightroots are among the most important exploration landmarks in the Depths because they convert an otherwise difficult-to-read dark region into a navigable map. Nintendo specifically recommends using discovered surface Shrines as clues for locating Lightroots, since the two types of location correspond across the Surface and Depths.
Directory: services and facilities
The second entry describes a general Lightroot function rather than a separate named facility.
What activating the Lightroot does: steps
- 01Illuminates the surrounding underground area.
- 02Reveals the corresponding section of the Depths map.
- 03Becomes a permanent Travel Point.
- 04Provides a safe lit area where Link’s Gloom-damaged maximum hearts can recover in the usual Lightroot manner.
Surface counterpart: Oshozan-u Shrine
U-nazohso Lightroot corresponds to Oshozan-u Shrine on the surface. The reversed naming pattern is one of the game’s most useful navigation conventions: a surface Shrine name and its Depths Lightroot counterpart generally use the same name in reverse order or anagram-like reversal. The relationship can work both ways, allowing an unexplored Lightroot to suggest the position of a surface Shrine, and vice versa.
Oshozan-u Shrine is not part of the Lightroot’s interior. It is a separate surface location with its own entrance and shrine challenge. If you are exploring from the surface, completing the Shrine does not activate U-nazohso Lightroot automatically. Conversely, activating U-nazohso Lightroot does not complete Oshozan-u Shrine.
Finding U-nazohso Lightroot
The most reliable way to locate it is to use the Depths map and the position of Oshozan-u Shrine above. The commonly listed location is approximately:
−1,403, 3,678, −712
A second reference gives the same horizontal position with a vertical value around −733, while another gives −1,403, 3,678, −712. This small discrepancy is best treated as a difference between map data presentations, coordinate readings or the point selected on the Lightroot model. The horizontal location is the useful part for ordinary play.
Practical route from the Depths
Because the exact route depends on which Chasms and Lightroots you have already activated, the following is a navigation method rather than a single mandatory path:
If you have no nearby underground map coverage, entering through a suitable Hebra-area Chasm and following visible Lightroots is safer than navigating directly by coordinates alone. The surrounding Depths can contain steep walls, large height changes and unlit gaps that make a straight-line route misleading.
Practical route from the Depths
- 01Open the Depths map and place a marker near the Lightroot’s approximate coordinates.
- 02Check whether Oshozan-u Shrine is already visible on your Surface map. If it is, use its position to confirm the general horizontal alignment.
- 03Travel from an existing Hebra or north-western Depths Lightroot rather than attempting a blind traverse through unlit terrain.
- 04Use Brightbloom Seeds, thrown or attached to arrows, to reveal cliffs, ceilings and possible dead ends.
- 05Mark the glowing Lightroot from a distance and approach it on foot, by climbing or with a vehicle.
- 06Activate it before continuing towards other nearby landmarks.
Access requirements and preparation
There is no special quest, key item or dungeon completion requirement attached specifically to U-nazohso Lightroot. The normal requirements for Depths exploration apply:
The Lightroot does not require Link to complete Oshozan-u Shrine first. The Shrine and Lightroot are separate progression states.
Enemies, hazards and items
No unique boss encounter, fixed treasure room or named enemy group is verified as part of U-nazohso Lightroot itself. Ordinary Depths hazards may still occur in the surrounding area, including darkness, Gloom-covered ground and hostile underground monsters. Their presence should not be confused with a location-specific encounter.
Similarly, this site should not be presented as a guaranteed source of a particular weapon, armour piece, Zonai device or material unless a reliable location-specific source confirms it. Lightroots are primarily navigation and fast-travel facilities, not item reward locations.
Directory: verified location-specific content
This directory records the researched scope. It does not imply that the surrounding Hebra Mountains Depths are empty.
Suggested exploration route
For a first visit, use U-nazohso Lightroot as part of a wider north-western Depths sweep:
This order is especially useful for players who prefer to reveal the underground map first and tackle surface Shrines separately.
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Enter the Hebra Mountains Depths through a Chasm that gives access to the region.
- 02Activate any nearby Lightroot before travelling deeper into darkness.
- 03Head towards U-nazohso Lightroot using the Surface map to check the approximate position of Oshozan-u Shrine.
- 04Activate U-nazohso Lightroot and use the newly revealed map to identify nearby unexplored routes.
- 05Decide whether to continue towards the North Lomei Depths Labyrinth or return to the surface for Oshozan-u Shrine.
- 06Record the Lightroot as a fast-travel anchor before attempting longer expeditions.
Progression and missability
U-nazohso Lightroot is not permanently missable. It remains available after the main story and can be activated at any time once Link reaches it. There is no known quest state that removes it, changes its position or prevents later activation.
The only meaningful progression distinction is whether the Lightroot has been activated. An unexplored Lightroot remains dark and absent from the revealed map; an activated one is lit and available for travel.
Lore and design note
The U-nazohso and Oshozan-u pairing illustrates the game’s deliberate Surface–Depths correspondence. Shrines and Lightroots are not simply unrelated points scattered across two maps. Their aligned positions provide an exploration clue, allowing players to infer one location from the other. Nintendo’s own exploration advice highlights this connection as a method for finding nearby Lightroots.
The Lightroot’s name is also the reverse counterpart of Oshozan-u Shrine’s name. This convention is useful enough to treat as a navigation tool, but it should not be taken to mean that the Shrine and Lightroot are physically connected.
