Overview
Tadarok Shrine is a puzzle shrine hidden behind a waterfall on the southern side of the Great Plateau. Its “Fire and Water” trial combines electrified water, flame jets, melting ice, lava and wooden boxes. The shrine is not a combat challenge, and there is no boss. Instead, it tests whether you can use Ultrahand to preserve materials and construct a temporary route to the altar.
The shrine itself is inside the River of the Dead Waterfall Cave. That cave is a separate named location with its own collectible and enemies, so it is useful to treat the approach, cave and shrine interior as related but distinct areas rather than calling the whole location simply “Tadarok Shrine”.
Location and boundaries
Tadarok Shrine is found at the end of the River of the Dead Waterfall Cave. The cave entrance is beside the waterfall at the southern end of the River of the Dead. The entrance is not a visible shrine doorway in the open world, so the shrine’s glow may be difficult to identify until you have approached the waterfall and passed behind it.
For a practical guide, the location can be divided into three parts:
Named locations within scope
The Great Plateau itself is much larger than this shrine and should not be treated as part of the shrine proper. Likewise, Koradat Lightroot is a separate Depths location, not a second room beneath Tadarok Shrine.

Access and recommended route
The simplest route is to travel across the Great Plateau towards the southern side of the River of the Dead. Look for the waterfall. The cave entrance is behind or immediately beside the falling water, and some guides describe a small platform near the entrance with an ice Like Like nearby. From there, follow the cave passage until the shrine becomes visible.
Suggested exploration route
The shrine is not presented as requiring a specific main quest. Some general Great Plateau activities and Depths-related quests may overlap with the area, but they are separate from Tadarok Shrine’s own access. Do not confuse this shrine with the Great Plateau’s other caves or with the quest A Call from the Depths.

River of the Dead Waterfall Cave
The cave is a small but worthwhile subarea rather than a bare corridor leading to the shrine. It contains environmental materials and at least two named types of cave encounter.
Bubbulfrog
A Bubbulfrog can be found partway through the cave, positioned around the ceiling and stalactites. Defeat it to obtain a Bubbul Gem. Because it is above the normal path, look upwards as you progress rather than rushing directly to the shrine.
Like Like
A Like Like is associated with the cave approach, including the area near the entrance. Be prepared for its attempt to swallow Link and avoid standing directly in front of it for too long. The Like Like is not part of the shrine’s Fire and Water puzzle.
Cave materials
Reported materials in the cave include Brightbloom Seed, Giant Brightbloom Seed, Bomb Flower and Brightcap. These are ordinary cave resources rather than shrine rewards, and their usefulness depends on your current inventory and route through the cave.

Before starting
Ultrahand is the essential ability. The puzzle also becomes easier if you understand three basic principles:
The shrine provides the necessary construction materials. You do not need to bring special weapons or devices.
1. Cross the electrified water
At the start, you will see a large stone block and a pool of water. The water is electrified by metal balls connected to electrical devices.
Use Ultrahand to place the stone block into the water. It creates a safe bridge or stepping platform. Jump across without touching the electrified water. Another possible approach is to use Ultrahand to pull the metal balls away from the water, which stops the electrical hazard, but moving the stone block is the intended and more useful solution.
Once across, do not leave the stone block behind. Bring it with you. You will need it in the next section.
2. Protect the ice block
The next chamber contains an ice dispenser and several flame fountains. The flames melt the ice as soon as it appears.
Move the stone block so that it blocks the flame jets aimed at the ice. The exact placement can be adjusted with Ultrahand, but the goal is to create a shield between the falling ice and the fire. Once the flames are blocked, the ice can remain large enough to use as a climbing platform.
You can also move the ice quickly away from the flame, but using the stone block is more reliable because it preserves the ice while you deal with the rest of the room.
3. Collect the optional chest
The chest is on a raised ledge in the corner opposite the ice dispenser. Use the ice block as a platform, or make a short climbing route with the available objects, then climb up and open the chest.
Chest reward
This is the shrine’s only treasure chest listed by the main shrine references. It is optional and does not affect access to the altar or the Light of Blessing.

4. Build a bridge over the lava
The central area contains a lava pool and additional cubic objects, including a metal block. Move the metal block out of the electrified water if it is still there, then attach it to the stone block with Ultrahand.
Place the combined blocks horizontally over the lava to form a bridge. Walk across or use the structure as a stable platform while you collect the next object.
Several walkthroughs describe using the stone and metal blocks as a long rectangular bridge. The important point is not the exact orientation but that the structure must span the lava and later be long enough to serve as part of the final vertical route.
5. Save a wooden box
Find a wooden box near the flames. It will catch fire if you pull it directly through the flame jets, so carry it towards the nearby water and dip it into the water before it is destroyed.
Once extinguished, bring the wooden box back across the bridge. Do not leave it sitting in the flames. The box is needed to extend the final construction and is not merely decorative scenery.
6. Prepare the final Ascend route
Attach the wooden box to the stone-and-metal structure, creating a longer rectangular construction. The final structure must be tall or long enough to reach the upper area.
Before finishing the arrangement, remove the electrified metal ball from the water below the final route if it is still active. The wooden box is not a conductor, but removing the electrical hazard makes the final positioning safer and prevents accidental damage or confusion.
Place the assembled structure vertically or at a suitable angle on the metal platform beneath the upper opening. The exact arrangement can vary slightly, but you need an overhead surface through which Ascend can travel.
Position the large ice block below the structure. Stand on the ice and use Ascend through the construction to reach the upper level. Take care not to place the ice or the wooden box where they are exposed to the flame fountains, or they may be destroyed before you can climb.
7. Claim the Light of Blessing
At the top, walk to the altar and interact with it. The Rauru and Sonia statue awards one Light of Blessing.
Shrine completion rewards
The Light of Blessing is fixed shrine content. The Mighty Zonaite Shield is also fixed, rather than a random drop.

Shrine completion rewards
| Reward | How to obtain it |
|---|---|
| Mighty Zonaite Shield | Open the optional chest in the ice-and-flame chamber |
| Light of Blessing | Complete the Fire and Water trial and activate the altar |
Puzzle objects and their roles
---
Puzzle objects and their roles
| Object or hazard | Function in the puzzle |
|---|---|
| Stone block | Crosses the electrified water; blocks flame jets; forms part of the final structure |
| Metal block | Combines with the stone block to make a longer bridge and vertical construction |
| Ice block | Provides a climbing platform and supports access to the chest or final Ascend route |
| Wooden box | Must be extinguished, then attached to the other blocks |
| Electrified water | Blocks the initial route and can be neutralised by moving the metal conductors |
| Flame fountains | Melt ice and burn wooden boxes |
| Lava | Requires a constructed bridge |
| Ascend | Reaches the upper shrine area through the assembled structure |
Hazards and practical advice
Electricity
The first water pool is dangerous because metal balls conduct electricity into it. Do not assume that swimming across is safe. Either use the stone block as a bridge or move the conductive objects away from the water.
Fire
Flame fountains can destroy the ice and wooden box needed for the puzzle. Use the stone block as a barrier whenever possible. If a box catches fire, move it quickly into water.
Lava
The lava does not require fireproof armour for the intended solution. Build and position the bridge carefully instead of trying to cross the pool directly.
Fragile construction
Ultrahand structures can be awkward to rotate in confined rooms. If the bridge is misaligned, detach and reposition the blocks rather than trying to force Link across a gap. A horizontal bridge is easier to test over the lava; the final route needs a vertical or suitably angled surface for Ascend.
Ice management
Do not let the ice sit in front of the flame jets while you explore the room. The chest route becomes much easier if you first block the flames, allowing a full-sized ice block to survive.

Nearby connections
Koradat Lightroot
Tadarok Shrine corresponds with Koradat Lightroot in the Depths. The two locations form part of the surface-to-Depths relationship used throughout Tears of the Kingdom, but completing the shrine does not automatically activate the Lightroot. The Lightroot must be reached and activated in the Depths.
Great Plateau
The shrine is one of several points of interest associated with the Great Plateau in Tears of the Kingdom. It is not one of the original Great Plateau tutorial shrines from Breath of the Wild, and it should not be merged with the Plateau’s other caves, chasms or ruins.
River of the Dead
The river is the natural landmark that leads to the waterfall and cave. If you are searching from above, follow the watercourse towards its southern waterfall rather than searching the plateau’s open fields for a freestanding shrine.

Lore and series context
Tadarok Shrine is a Shrine of Light built around the standard Rauru and Sonia altar format used in Tears of the Kingdom. Its title, Fire and Water, directly describes the trial’s central contrast: fire must be blocked or avoided, while water is used to cross hazards, extinguish the wooden box and preserve the puzzle’s materials.
The shrine has no named residents, quest giver, faction or shop. Its significance is practical rather than narrative: it is a concealed Great Plateau shrine, a source of a Blessing and a connection point in the surface-and-Depths structure of the game.
