Key takeaways

  • Simosiwak Shrine is on Bravery Island, not in the forest on the surface and not in Eldin, despite one guide incorrectly assigning it to the Eldin Sky region.
  • The entrance is initially inactive Speak to the Steward Construct on the island and complete the Dive Ceremony by passing through the green rings.
  • The shrine is a dark Proving Grounds challenge Your normal equipment is removed when the trial begins.
  • Collect weapons and shields before committing to the arena A Light Shield is especially useful for navigation.
  • Defeat the shrine’s Constructs, use the available Flame Emitters to improve your weapons, then enter the altar room.
  • The chest contains a Bright Elixir The altar provides the shrine’s Light of Blessing.

Note

Base-game guide. This article covers Simosiwak Shrine itself, its entrance island, Bravery Island, and the Dive Ceremony required to reveal it. It does not treat the whole Great Hyrule Forest Sky area or every island in the wider North Hyrule Sky Archipelago as part of the shrine location.

Overview

Simosiwak Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is found on Bravery Island, a small sky island above the Great Hyrule Forest. Its trial, “Proving Grounds: Lights Out”, removes Link’s equipment and places him in a dark combat arena where he must improvise with weapons, shields and light sources found inside. Completing the shrine awards a Light of Blessing and opens the shrine as a permanent travel point.

Location and boundaries

Simosiwak Shrine occupies the lower portion of Bravery Island, a distinctive rotating or ring-shaped sky island above the Great Hyrule Forest. The island belongs to the sky area commonly described as the Great Hyrule Forest Sky. Some guides also classify the wider island group as the North Hyrule Sky Archipelago. These labels refer to overlapping regional map conventions rather than separate shrine locations.

The shrine’s immediate setting has three relevant parts:

The surrounding sky islands and the surface Great Hyrule Forest are neighbouring areas, not subareas of Simosiwak Shrine. The shrine should also not be confused with other shrines in the Great Hyrule Forest region, such as Mayam Shrine or Momosik Shrine.

Reaching Bravery Island

The most direct approach is from Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower. Launch from the tower and glide towards the sky island group above the Great Hyrule Forest. Bravery Island is recognisable by its circular, rotating layout and the large gap or ring-like structure around its central area.

The Dive Ceremony is a timed aerial route rather than a conventional combat mission. Prepare as follows:

Approach route

A flying machine can also be used, but the tower launch and glide are sufficient for most players. The exact amount of stamina required depends on launch height, wind, glide corrections and whether Link uses stamina recovery during the journey.

The Dive Ceremony

The shrine is not normally accessible when first found. The Steward Construct directs Link to the island’s diving challenge. This is the shrine’s exterior activation sequence, separate from the interior Proving Grounds trial.

Dive Ceremony procedure

The green rings form a descending route. The simplest technique is to dive through the next ring, then briefly deploy the paraglider to correct Link’s position before diving again. Avoid opening the paraglider too early, as this can make the route difficult to complete within the intended time.

According to the available walkthroughs, the ceremony is treated as a trial run rather than a permanent story quest. Once all rings have been passed, the shrine appears and can be activated.

If the shrine does not appear

The ceremony and the shrine’s internal combat challenge are separate. Finishing the dive does not complete Simosiwak Shrine; it only makes the entrance available.

Spoiler warning

The following section describes the shrine’s combat layout, available equipment and reward.

When Link enters Simosiwak Shrine, the shrine removes his normal weapons, shields, bows, armour effects and other carried equipment for the duration of the challenge. The trial takes place in a dark, maze-like arena. Link must locate equipment, illuminate his surroundings and defeat the Constructs using only items supplied inside the shrine.

The darkness is the main complication, not a separate puzzle mechanism. It affects visibility, enemy detection and navigation. Light sources and careful movement are therefore as important as raw damage.

Interior equipment directory

The following named equipment and materials are reported in walkthroughs for the shrine:

The Light Shield is particularly useful because it produces light while equipped, allowing Link to explore without relying solely on environmental illumination. The Flame Emitters can be fused to weapons to create a source of light and fire damage. Exact weapon durability and material placement can vary according to the specific game state and the shrine’s internal reset behaviour, so treat the list as the verified equipment pool rather than a claim that every item is positioned in one universally documented order.

Enemy directory

The shrine contains multiple Constructs rather than a conventional boss. Some sources describe three main Construct encounters, while enemy directories distinguish the stronger Captain Construct I from the Soldier Constructs. The practical objective is the same: defeat every hostile Construct in the arena so that the altar entrance opens.

Recommended walkthrough

1. Collect the starting equipment

Before entering the darkest part of the arena, collect the equipment placed near the entrance. Do not rush immediately towards the enemies. The opening supplies are the shrine’s intended starting advantage.

Take at least one basic weapon and a shield. If a Light Shield is nearby, equip it early.

2. Search the left side for the Long Stick and Old Wooden Shield

From the entrance, turn left and move through the dim area. Locate the Long Stick and Old Wooden Shield. The Long Stick gives you extra reach, which is valuable when fighting Constructs in low visibility.

A longer weapon also lets Link attack around corners and from the edge of a small platform, reducing the chance of walking directly into an enemy’s attack range.

3. Find the Light Shield

Return towards the entrance and search the opposite side of the opening area. The Light Shield is positioned near a light source or illuminated pillar. Equip it if you have not already done so.

The shield is not simply defensive equipment here. Its illumination helps reveal:

4. Move towards the upper platform

Use the lighted route and climb the stairs on the left side of the arena. Move carefully. Constructs can detect Link in the darkness, and entering the central area without a weapon or shield makes the first encounter unnecessarily risky.

If you see a Construct before it sees you, approach from the side and begin with a charged or well-positioned attack. The goal is to avoid being surrounded.

5. Defeat the first Construct

The first Construct is found around the raised area near the stairs. Defeat it and collect any useful dropped equipment or materials.

Avoid wasting all your weapon durability on repeated weak attacks. If the shrine provides a Flame Emitter nearby, consider saving it for a stronger weapon or fusing it after the first enemy has been defeated.

6. Fuse a Flame Emitter

Near the far side of the arena, close to the altar approach, a Flame Emitter can be used as a fuse material. Fuse it to a weapon to create a tool that both damages enemies and illuminates the surrounding area.

The fire effect is especially useful against Constructs because it gives you a visible attack arc and can pressure enemies at close range. It also reduces the need to move repeatedly between light sources.

Do not stand too close to the emitter’s flame. The fusion is useful, but the resulting weapon can create awkward visibility and positioning if swung carelessly in confined spaces.

7. Hunt the central Construct

Move away from the altar approach and search the central maze-like portion of the shrine. A Construct patrols this area.

Use the Light Shield or Flame Emitter weapon to track it. If the Construct has not detected you, take a position near a corner or platform edge and attack as it approaches. If it has detected you, keep enough space to see its weapon swings and retreat towards a better-lit area rather than fighting blindly.

8. Defeat the remaining Construct

Return towards the altar side of the arena and climb the remaining staircase or raised route. Another Construct is positioned near this upper section.

A second Flame Emitter is available in the area according to the main walkthroughs, making it possible to replace or improve a weapon if the first fused weapon breaks. Use it to maintain illumination and damage output.

9. Enter the altar room

Once all hostile Constructs have been defeated, the barrier or entrance to the altar opens. Enter the room and collect the chest before examining the altar.

The chest contains a Bright Elixir. After taking it, examine the altar to receive the Light of Blessing. Completing the shrine also activates it as a fast-travel point.

Combat tactics

Use light as a combat resource

The shrine is easier when Link remains illuminated. The Light Shield is normally the safest option because it allows Link to keep a weapon equipped. A Flame Emitter weapon gives more offensive power but can be harder to control in tight spaces.

Do not explore empty-handed

The arena is intentionally arranged so that Link can obtain weapons before engaging the Constructs. Collect the nearby stick and shield first, then move towards the enemies.

Lure enemies into the entrance area

If a Construct detects you in the open arena, retreat towards the entrance or a lit section. Fighting in a known area is safer than attempting to track an enemy through darkness.

Use the arena’s height

Raised walkways and staircases provide better visibility and can create a useful separation between Link and the Constructs. A Long Stick is particularly effective from a platform edge.

Fuse for utility, not only damage

A Flame Emitter is valuable because it combines:

The shrine is designed to reward practical fusing rather than a single prescribed solution.

Rewards and facilities

Shrine reward

Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel. The shrine itself does not provide a Heart Container directly.

Chest reward

The Bright Elixir is found in the altar room after the Constructs have been defeated. It is a fixed shrine chest reward, not a random enemy drop.

Fast travel

After activation and completion, Simosiwak Shrine becomes a fast-travel destination. This makes it useful for returning to the Great Hyrule Forest sky area, although the shrine’s isolated position means that further travel across the archipelago may still require gliding or an aerial vehicle.

Nearby connections

Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower

This is the most practical launch point for reaching Bravery Island. It provides the altitude needed to glide towards the island group and is the recommended route in several walkthroughs.

Great Hyrule Forest

The surface forest lies below the sky island group. It is a neighbouring region rather than part of Simosiwak Shrine. The shrine’s presence above the forest makes the location easy to associate with the forest, but the Dive Ceremony and shrine interior are entirely sky-based.

North Hyrule Sky Archipelago

Bravery Island is part of the broader sky-island group north of Hyrule Castle and above the forest. Other islands in this archipelago should not be counted as shrine subareas unless a particular activity or route explicitly connects them to Bravery Island.
