About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Depths, Lightroot functions, the Lanayru Wetlands route and connections to the Yiga-related Master Kohga questline in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Overview
Sekioam Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Lanayru Wetlands Depths, the underground region beneath the Lanayru Wetlands in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It is a compact location rather than a settlement, dungeon or multi-room landmark. Its importance comes from three practical functions: it illuminates the nearby Depths, restores hearts damaged by Gloom when Link activates it, and becomes a fast-travel point for later journeys through the surrounding underground network.
The Lightroot corresponds to Maoikes Shrine on the Surface. This is part of the game’s wider Surface-to-Depths relationship, in which many Shrines of Light and Lightroots occupy corresponding positions on their respective maps.
Sekioam is especially useful when travelling east and north-east from Uasnoj Lightroot. A route marked by the stone statues of the Depths leads from Uasnoj towards Sekioam and continues towards Uinoj Lightroot and the Abandoned Lanayru Mine area.
Location and boundaries
Sekioam Lightroot is a single activated Lightroot structure within the Lanayru Wetlands Depths. The location’s boundary should not be expanded to include the whole Lanayru Wetlands Depths, the Lanayru Wetlands Chasm, Uasnoj Lightroot, Uinoj Lightroot or the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. Those are neighbouring or connected locations, not subareas of Sekioam itself.
The regional directory also lists Korakut Lightroot, Korom Lightroot and Uasnoj Lightroot alongside Sekioam, while separately identifying the Lanayru Wetlands Chasm as another location in the same broader region.
Excluded neighbouring areas
The following should be treated as separate locations:
This distinction matters when planning routes. Reaching Sekioam does not mean that the surrounding Lanayru Wetlands Depths, the mine or every connected Lightroot has been explored or activated.

What Sekioam Lightroot does
Like other Lightroots, Sekioam has three core functions.
Illuminates the Depths
Activating Sekioam dispels the darkness around it and reveals the corresponding portion of the Depths map. Lightroots are therefore both landmarks and mapping stations. Their light makes nearby terrain, cliffs, roads and enemy encounters easier to read, especially when travelling through the unlit Lanayru underground.
The light does not illuminate the entire Lanayru Wetlands Depths at once. It reveals only the surrounding area, so unexplored dark patches beyond its effective range still need to be mapped by activating other Lightroots or by travelling through the region.
Restores Gloom-damaged hearts
The light from a Lightroot restores hearts disabled by Gloom. This makes Sekioam a useful recovery point after crossing Gloom-covered ground or fighting enemies that inflict Gloom damage. It is not a substitute for ordinary healing in every situation, but it removes the temporary maximum-heart reduction caused by Gloom when Link stands within the Lightroot’s restorative light.
Creates a fast-travel point
Once activated, Sekioam Lightroot becomes a Travel Gate. Link can then return to it through the map, making it a useful staging point for journeys towards Uinoj Lightroot, the Abandoned Lanayru Mine or other nearby parts of the Depths.
---
Surface counterpart: Maoikes Shrine
Sekioam Lightroot corresponds to Maoikes Shrine on the Surface. This is the location’s most useful navigation clue if the Surface map has already been explored.
The relationship is positional rather than a claim that the two locations share a quest, entrance or interior. Activating Maoikes Shrine does not activate Sekioam Lightroot automatically, and activating Sekioam does not complete the Shrine. They are separate locations in different map layers.

Recommended route from Uasnoj Lightroot
The most clearly documented approach begins at Uasnoj Lightroot. A route associated with the Yiga-related Master Kohga progression describes stone statues leading east and then north-east to Sekioam. From there, the statue trail continues north and north-east towards Uinoj Lightroot.
Numbered route
The statue route is safer and more reliable than trying to cross the region directly in darkness. It also connects Sekioam with the wider underground route leading towards the Abandoned Lanayru Mine.
Numbered route
- 01Enter the Depths through Lanayru Wetlands Chasm, or reach an already activated Lightroot in the region.
- 02Travel to Uasnoj Lightroot.
- 03From Uasnoj, look for the large stone statues used as route markers in the Depths.
- 04Follow the statue line generally east.
- 05Continue north-east until Sekioam Lightroot comes into view.
- 06Activate Sekioam before continuing onwards.
- 07If following the same statue route, continue north and then north-east towards Uinoj Lightroot.
Approaching from the Surface
Maoikes Shrine provides a useful Surface reference, but the shrine is not documented as a direct entrance to Sekioam Lightroot. To reach the root physically, Link must enter the Depths through a chasm or another underground route and then travel to its coordinates.
The Lanayru Wetlands Chasm is the most relevant named access point for this side of the Depths. A route guide identifies it as a practical starting point for travelling through the area, with Uasnoj Lightroot found south of the landing location.
Practical access checklist
These are general Depths preparations rather than requirements unique to Sekioam.

Nearby connections
Sekioam is positioned within a useful chain of Lightroots in the Lanayru Wetlands Depths.
Uasnoj Lightroot
Uasnoj is the recommended approach point for the documented statue route. The route runs from Uasnoj east and then north-east to Sekioam.
Uinoj Lightroot
Uinoj lies beyond Sekioam along the same general statue-marked route. From Sekioam, the statues lead north and then north-east. Uinoj is associated with the route towards the large underground arena and the Abandoned Lanayru Mine area, although those places are not part of Sekioam Lightroot itself.
Abandoned Lanayru Mine
The Abandoned Lanayru Mine is a separate major underground landmark. The route from the Lanayru Wetlands side passes beyond Uinoj and eventually reaches the mine. The route guide places Kawagom Lightroot south of the mine, showing that the mine has its own nearby navigation network rather than being a subarea of Sekioam.
Regional Lightroot directory
The regional directory identifies the following Lightroots in the Lanayru Wetlands Depths:
This is a directory of neighbouring Lightroots, not a list of internal rooms or subareas within Sekioam.

Landmarks and facilities
Sekioam Lightroot has one verified landmark and facility: the Lightroot itself.
Sekioam Lightroot
The root consists of the large glowing plant structure characteristic of the Depths. Interacting with it activates the location, illuminates the surrounding area, restores Gloom-disabled hearts and unlocks fast travel.
No separately named building, shop, service station, Bargainer Statue, forge, mine entrance, settlement or mission-only structure is documented as part of the location entry.
Not verified as part of the location
The following categories should not be added to a Sekioam directory without separate evidence:
The surrounding Lanayru Wetlands Depths may contain some of these features, but the evidence consulted here identifies Sekioam as a Lightroot location, not as a broader settlement or compound.

Items, enemies and collectibles
No unique item, chest, armour piece, collectible, named enemy or boss is documented in the dedicated Sekioam Lightroot entries consulted for this guide. That should not be read as proof that no ordinary enemies, resource deposits or random drops can appear nearby. The safe distinction is:
This distinction is important because a Lightroot is not automatically a treasure location. Its primary reward is map access, illumination, Gloom recovery and fast travel.

Items, enemies and collectibles
| Name | Details |
|---|---|
| Verified fixed content | the Lightroot and its functions. |
| Not verified here | specific chests, fixed treasure, enemy placements, minibosses, harvestable resources or random drops. |
| Separate regional content | anything found elsewhere in the Lanayru Wetlands Depths or along the road to the mine. |
Missions and progression
Sekioam Lightroot is not documented as having a unique local quest or an activation puzzle. It can, however, serve as a waypoint during underground travel connected with the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan quest route.
A guide for that progression describes the statue road from Uasnoj to Sekioam, then onwards towards Uinoj and the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. Sekioam is therefore useful as a route checkpoint, but it should not be treated as the objective or completion point of that questline.
Progression state
No evidence indicates that activation is missable. Like other Lightroots, it is a persistent map facility rather than a timed encounter.
---
Progression state
| State | Effect |
|---|---|
| Before activation | Surrounding map remains dark; no fast travel to Sekioam |
| After activation | Nearby Depths map is revealed; the root’s light is active; Gloom-disabled hearts can be restored; fast travel is unlocked |
| After leaving | Sekioam remains available as a permanent Travel Gate |
Suggested exploration route
For a first visit, the following route is efficient:
This route prioritises permanent map coverage and fast travel before deeper exploration.
---
Suggested exploration route: steps
- 01Begin at the Lanayru Wetlands Chasm.
- 02Activate Uasnoj Lightroot if it is still inactive.
- 03Use the statue trail to travel east and north-east.
- 04Activate Sekioam Lightroot as soon as it is reached.
- 05Pause in its light to recover any Gloom-disabled hearts.
- 06Open the map and mark any remaining dark patches around the Lanayru Wetlands Depths.
- 07Continue north and north-east along the statues to Uinoj Lightroot.
- 08Decide whether to continue towards the separate underground landmarks and the Abandoned Lanayru Mine.
- 09Return to Sekioam by fast travel if a safe, central checkpoint is needed.
Hazards and practical advice
The main dangers are environmental rather than unique to the root.
Darkness
The unlit Depths make cliffs, water, enemy silhouettes and Gloom patches difficult to see. Brightbloom Seeds are useful even after reaching Sekioam because the root’s illumination does not extend indefinitely.
Gloom
Gloom-covered ground can disable maximum hearts. Reaching Sekioam allows the root’s light to restore those affected hearts, provided Link remains within its area of effect.
Navigation errors
The roads and statues in the Depths can be easy to lose when travelling over uneven ground. If the statue route disappears, check the map and return to the last activated Lightroot rather than continuing blindly.
Vertical terrain
The coordinate difference between the Surface and Depths means the corresponding Maoikes Shrine is a map reference, not necessarily an immediately accessible point above the root. Do not assume that a vertical shaft, cave or direct drop connects the two locations.
---
Lore and map significance
Lightroots are described in in-game guidance as roots that illuminate the Depths and purify Gloom. Their placement also reflects the game’s deliberate relationship between the Surface and the underground world. The game’s tips describe the Surface and Depths as intricately connected, with special places on one layer often mirrored by something on the other. Sekioam’s correspondence with Maoikes Shrine is one example of that design principle.
The name Sekioam is not used for a Surface settlement or a known character. It identifies the Lightroot itself. Other-language naming tables provide translated or transliterated variants, but these do not establish additional in-game areas or separate locations.
