Key takeaways
- Nachoyah Shrine is above the Room of Awakening on Great Sky Island, at approximately 0389, -1661, 2299. Different maps display slightly different height values, but they refer to the same shrine.
- You normally reach it by fast travelling to the Room of Awakening, using Ascend to reach the upper machinery, and following the passage to the shrine entrance.
- The shrine’s required ability is Recall, which Link receives in the Temple of Time after examining the large Tear.
- Its only treasure chest contains 10 Arrows.
- The final gate opens when two rotating hands overlap Use Recall on one hand at that moment to make the two mechanisms move together long enough to pass.
- Completing Nachoyah Shrine grants a Light of Blessing It contains no boss, combat trial or optional shrine quest.
Overview
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Base game guide Trial: The Ability to Rewind Location: Great Sky Island Major spoilers for the opening section of the game
Nachoyah Shrine is the fourth and final Shrine of Light on Great Sky Island. Unlike the first three tutorial shrines, which introduce Ultrahand, Fuse and Ascend, Nachoyah Shrine teaches the practical use of Recall. Its puzzles are built around reversing moving objects, particularly rafts, a large gear and two clock-like mechanisms.
The shrine is not located openly on the island’s surface. It is reached through the Room of Awakening, the starting chamber beneath the island. In the normal story route, Nachoyah Shrine becomes available after Link obtains Recall in the Temple of Time and attempts to open the sealed door there. Completing it provides the fourth Great Sky Island Light of Blessing and allows the opening sequence to progress towards leaving the island.
Overview and boundaries
Nachoyah Shrine should be treated as a small location with two connected parts:
The Room of Awakening is not itself part of the shrine interior, but it is the shrine’s essential access area. The Temple of Time is nearby in the broader Great Sky Island progression, but it is a separate location and should not be folded into Nachoyah Shrine. Likewise, the Cave of Awakening below the starting area is connected to the wider opening route but is not a subarea of the shrine.
Nachoyah Shrine is also distinct from Noya Neha Shrine, an Ancient Shrine from Breath of the Wild. Noya Neha is located near Hyrule Castle West and has a combat trial, Knight’s Shield and Spirit Orb. It is not an alternate name or earlier version of Nachoyah Shrine.
Overview and boundaries: steps
- 01The approach area, consisting of the Room of Awakening and the machinery above it.
- 02The shrine interior, where the Recall puzzles and reward are found.
Location and geography
Nachoyah Shrine is positioned in the southern part of Great Sky Island, above the Room of Awakening. It is hidden from the normal surface route and is easiest to find once the game marks it after Link visits the Temple of Time.
The shrine entrance is reached from the machinery-filled upper section of the Room of Awakening. Large rotating devices provide the route upwards. The surrounding location is characterised by:
The shrine’s location is therefore not simply “south of the Temple of Time”. That description identifies the general relationship between the two areas, but the playable entrance is inside the Room of Awakening.
Included named places
The following named places are directly relevant to the shrine’s scope:
The Temple of Time is a connected progression location rather than part of Nachoyah Shrine itself. Great Sky Island is the wider region containing all four opening shrines.

Access and route to the shrine
Normal story route
Nachoyah Shrine is normally accessed after the following progression:
The first three shrines are not subareas of Nachoyah Shrine, but they are progression prerequisites in the ordinary opening sequence. The shrine is designed to be completed after Recall has been obtained.
Reaching the entrance from the Room of Awakening
The exact approach can look slightly different depending on the angle from which you enter the Room of Awakening. The important landmarks are the large gears, the upper platform and the passage leading away from the machinery.
Alternative exploration
Players can sometimes reach parts of the upper Great Sky Island terrain through Ascend and unconventional movement before following the intended story route. These approaches are not necessary for normal progression and may leave Link without the intended ability or map guidance. For a standard playthrough, fast travel from the Temple of Time to the Room of Awakening is the most reliable route.
Normal story route
- 01Complete Ukouh Shrine, In-isa Shrine and Gutanbac Shrine.
- 02Travel to the Temple of Time.
- 03Examine the large Tear inside the temple.
- 04Receive the Recall ability.
- 05Attempt to open the large door at the rear of the temple.
- 06After Link is unable to open it, Rauru points him towards the final shrine on Great Sky Island.
- 07Open the map and fast travel to the Room of Awakening.
- 08Use Ascend and the moving machinery to reach the upper route.
- 09Follow the passage to Nachoyah Shrine.
Reaching the entrance from the Room of Awakening: From the Room of Awakening
- 01Move towards the side of the chamber containing the large rotating gears.
- 02Find the area where the ceiling or upper platform allows the use of Ascend.
- 03Ascend to the higher ledge.
- 04Use Recall on the moving gear or machinery when necessary to create a reachable route.
- 05Cross the machinery towards the southern passage.
- 06Enter the corridor leading to the Nachoyah Shrine entrance.
Shrine walkthrough
1. Enter the water-current chamber
After activating the shrine, proceed into the first chamber. A strong current carries small wooden rafts away from Link. Simply jumping onto a raft is not enough, because the current moves it in the wrong direction.
Wait for a raft to come within reach. Use Recall on it, then jump aboard. Recall reverses the raft’s recent movement, allowing it to travel back against the current towards the next platform.
You do not need to hold Recall indefinitely. Let the raft carry you until you can jump onto the next safe ledge or prepare for the next raft.
2. Reverse the second raft
The next part continues the same lesson. A second raft is carried down a waterfall or along another section of fast-moving water.
Use Recall on the raft after it becomes reachable, then ride it back up the waterfall. The raft brings Link to the next platform and demonstrates that Recall can reverse both horizontal movement and falling movement.
If the Recall duration expires, wait for another raft and repeat the action. This is safer than attempting a long jump across the water.
3. Reach the gear and treasure chest
In the next chamber, a large toothed gear turns beside a pool of water. The chest is on a raised ledge near the gear.
The chest is optional, but it is the shrine’s only treasure chest and contains 10 Arrows.
The chest is not hidden behind a separate switch or combat encounter. The challenge is simply using the reversed gear as a moving platform.
4. Solve the clock-hand gate
Continue to the opposite side of the chamber. You will find two large rotating hands above a gated passage. They turn in opposite directions.
The gate opens briefly whenever the two hands overlap. If you merely wait for the overlap, the opening is usually too short to use comfortably.
The most reliable target is usually the nearer or outer hand, but the essential principle is alignment, not a particular hand. If the gate closes, cancel Recall or wait for the hands to meet again and repeat the timing.
5. Claim the Light of Blessing
After passing through the gate, follow the short final route to the shrine’s altar. Examine the sigil and receive the Light of Blessing.
There is no monk boss fight, Guardian Scout, Construct encounter or additional puzzle after the clock mechanism.
3. Reach the gear and treasure chest: To collect it
- 01Stand near the large gear.
- 02Activate Recall on the gear.
- 03Jump onto the gear while it is moving in the reversed direction.
- 04Ride it upwards or across towards the raised ledge.
- 05Jump from the gear onto the ledge.
- 06Open the chest.
- 07Drop into the water if necessary, then return to the main route.
4. Solve the clock-hand gate: Instead
- 01Watch the two hands until they are about to overlap.
- 02Activate Recall on one of them as they meet.
- 03The recalled hand changes its movement pattern.
- 04The two hands now move together or remain aligned for much longer.
- 05Pass through the open gate.
Inventory and rewards
The 10 Arrows are fixed shrine treasure rather than a random drop. Nachoyah Shrine has one documented chest in the standard base-game layout.
Why the Light of Blessing matters
A Light of Blessing is one of the main progression currencies in Tears of the Kingdom. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for either:
The fourth Great Sky Island shrine completes the island’s set of four, allowing the opening sequence to move towards the Temple of Time door and Link’s departure from the sky island.
Inventory and rewards
| Reward type | Item | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Treasure chest | 10 Arrows | Optional, on the ledge beside the large gear |
| Shrine completion | Light of Blessing | Fixed reward for completing Nachoyah Shrine |
Characters, residents and factions
Nachoyah Shrine has no ordinary residents, shopkeepers or named local characters.
The following characters are associated with the shrine’s progression, but they are not residents of the shrine:
The Rauru and Sonia statue at the end of the shrine is part of the shrine’s completion scene. It is not a separate Goddess Statue and does not provide an alternative service.
Facilities and services
Nachoyah Shrine offers only the normal Shrine of Light functions:
There are no shops, Forge Constructs, device dispensers, cooking facilities, beds, armour services or mission-givers inside the shrine.
The nearby Room of Awakening is also primarily a progression and travel area. It should not be described as a shop or service hub merely because it connects to other opening-game locations.
Enemies, hazards and security
Hazards
The shrine’s dangers are environmental rather than hostile:
Falling into the water is generally recoverable, although it may force you to repeat part of the movement puzzle. The shrine does not contain a damage-heavy environmental hazard comparable to lava, gloom or extreme temperature.
Progression changes
Nachoyah Shrine has two important progression states.
Before Recall
The shrine is not intended to be completed before Link learns Recall. The story directs Link to it only after the Temple of Time scene grants the ability. The puzzles are specifically designed around reversing objects, and the normal route assumes Recall is available.
After activation
Once the entrance is activated, Nachoyah Shrine becomes a travel point. After completion, it remains useful as a fast-travel destination for revisiting the Room of Awakening and the southern part of Great Sky Island.
Completing the shrine does not remove its treasure chest, alter the room layout or create a new shop. The principal permanent change is the completed shrine marker and the Light of Blessing added to Link’s inventory.
Suggested exploration route
This route gives the intended tutorial progression and avoids unnecessary climbing or blind exploration.
For a clean first visit
- 01Complete the first three Great Sky Island shrines.
- 02Visit the Temple of Time and learn Recall.
- 03Attempt the sealed door so the final shrine is marked.
- 04Fast travel to the Room of Awakening.
- 05Ascend through the machinery.
- 06Enter Nachoyah Shrine.
- 07Reverse both rafts.
- 08Collect the 10 Arrows from the gear-side chest.
- 09Align the clock hands with Recall.
- 10Claim the Light of Blessing.
- 11Return to the Temple of Time.
Completion checklist
Use this checklist if you want to confirm that the shrine is fully cleared:
The chest is the main point that can be overlooked. Completing the shrine without opening it still allows progression, but the shrine will not count as fully looted.
Lore and design notes
Nachoyah Shrine is the clearest of the four Great Sky Island shrines in its focus on a single ability. Ukouh introduces construction with Ultrahand, In-isa introduces Fuse, Gutanbac introduces Ascend, and Nachoyah presents Recall through a sequence of increasingly direct applications:
The final clock-hand puzzle also establishes an important general use of Recall. The ability is not limited to sending a single object backwards. It can be used to change the timing and relationship between moving objects, creating a temporary opening that would otherwise be too brief.
The shrine’s trial name, The Ability to Rewind, directly describes this tutorial purpose. Nintendo’s own introductory material identifies Nachoyah Shrine as the fourth shrine where Link acquires and uses Recall.
Lore and design notes: steps
- 01reverse a floating object;
- 02reverse a raft travelling down a waterfall;
- 03reverse a rotating gear;
- 04manipulate two moving mechanisms so they remain aligned.
