Key takeaways
- Mayaumekis Shrine is in the Hebra Mountains Sky area, within the Rising Island Chain.
- Its trial, Downward Force, uses the upward bounce of floating boat sails.
- You need a bow and at least one arrow to activate the shrine’s switches.
- The only enemy inside is a Soldier Construct II carrying an Old Wooden Bow.
- The optional chest is on a left-hand ledge after the moving boat and contains 10 Arrows.
- The shrine is a useful travel point for the Rising Island Chain, but it is distinct from the nearby Wind Temple and the wider island-chain region.
About this guide
Base game guide for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Spoilers: This guide reveals the shrine’s puzzle, chest, enemy and its connection with the route to the Wind Temple.
Overview
Mayaumekis Shrine, whose trial is called Downward Force, is a Shrine of Light in the Rising Island Chain above the Hebra region. It lies on the route towards the Wind Temple, at approximately −2948, 3050, 0896. Some map references list a nearby vertical position of 0911, so the exact height can vary slightly depending on whether the entrance, shrine marker or surrounding platform is being measured.
The shrine is built around floating boats whose sails launch Link upwards. Its main challenge is not a conventional device puzzle but a sequence of controlled jumps, paraglider adjustments and one-use switches. Completing it awards a Light of Blessing, while the optional treasure chest contains 10 Arrows.
Location and boundaries
Mayaumekis Shrine should be treated as a small, self-contained shrine interior rather than a name for the entire Rising Island Chain. The island chain is the larger outdoor sky-island route containing multiple platforms, floating boats, the approach to the Wind Temple and other encounters. Mayaumekis Shrine is one landmark within that region, positioned on the lower part of the route and serving as a convenient warp point.
The Wind Temple is nearby but is not part of the shrine. It is a separate major dungeon reached by continuing through the Rising Island Chain. Likewise, the Stormwind Ark and the wider island-chain traversal should not be counted as shrine subareas.

Access and preparation
The shrine is encountered while travelling through the Rising Island Chain towards the Wind Temple. The approach takes place in a cold sky environment, so cold-resistance armour or food may be useful before entering the shrine. The shrine interior itself is not primarily a survival challenge, but preparing for the outdoor approach can prevent unnecessary damage.
A bow and arrows are required for the switches. If you enter without suitable ammunition, the opening and final mechanisms cannot be activated normally. The shrine’s chest also supplies 10 arrows, but it is reached after the first major sequence rather than immediately at the entrance.
Walkthrough
1. Open the entrance gate
At the entrance, look through the barred gate and identify the single-use Shock Switch on the far side. Fire an arrow at it. The switch releases the portcullis and opens the route into the shrine.
This is the first important lesson of the trial: not every switch needs to be reached physically. Some are intended to be struck from a distance.
2. Defeat the Soldier Construct
Proceed into the large chamber and climb the short ramp. A Soldier Construct II waits in this opening section. Defeat it before attempting the boat sequence, since being knocked from a sail can send Link into the abyss below.
The Construct carries an Old Wooden Bow, according to the shrine’s recorded enemy inventory.
3. Use the first boat sail
After the enemy is dealt with, jump onto the top sail of the first floating boat. The sail acts like a spring and launches Link high into the chamber.
As Link rises, use the paraglider to control the descent. Aim for the next floating platform or boat rather than trying to climb the surrounding walls. The intended route is a chain of upward launches.
4. Reach the moving boat
Continue across the floating boats until you reach a boat that travels around the chamber. This is the trial’s main timing section.
Wait for the moving boat to come into a useful position, then jump or paraglide onto its sail. The best approach is usually to launch from a previous boat and adjust Link’s position in the air, rather than attempting a long horizontal jump from a fixed platform.
Once the moving boat launches Link upwards, steer towards the upper platforms. Do not rush the paraglider input: the height gained from the sail gives enough time to correct Link’s direction.
5. Collect the optional chest
From the moving-boat section, look towards the left-hand ledge. A chest is positioned there. Use one of the boat sails to gain height, then paraglide across to the ledge.
This is the only listed treasure chest inside Mayaumekis Shrine. It is optional, but collecting it is worthwhile if you are using arrows to solve the shrine or continue towards the Wind Temple.
6. Activate the upper Shock Switch
Return to the route on the right-hand side of the upper chamber. Several floating boats sit below a barred cage. The switch is inside the cage and cannot be reached directly from the floor.
Use the nearby boat sails to launch Link high enough to see the switch. Fire an arrow through the bars at the single-use Shock Switch. This opens the portcullises at the bottom of the cage.
7. Bounce through the cage and finish
After the bars open, jump onto the boat beneath the cage. Its sail launches Link through the newly opened route. Paraglide to the upper area and continue to the altar.
Interact with the terminal before the Rauru and Sonia Statue to receive the shrine’s main reward:
The statue’s presence marks the end of the shrine. There is no second combat arena or hidden boss encounter.
Enemies and equipment
Enemy equipment
The Soldier Construct is the shrine’s fixed combat encounter. The floating boats, sails and switches are environmental puzzle objects rather than enemies.
Items and rewards directory
The arrows are a fixed chest reward, not a random drop. The Light of Blessing is awarded for completing the shrine and activating its terminal.
Items and rewards directory
| Location | Item or reward | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Left ledge near the moving-boat section | 10 Arrows | Optional chest |
| Altar | Light of Blessing | Completion reward |
Hazards and practical advice
The main hazard is the abyss beneath the platforms. Falling does not usually create a complex reset state, but it wastes time and can make the moving-boat sequence frustrating.
Useful tactics include
- 01Defeat the Soldier Construct first. It is safer to solve the traversal section without ranged attacks interrupting your jumps.
- 02Keep arrows ready. Both the entrance switch and the final switch are designed to be shot.
- 03Use the sails vertically. The shrine’s boats are launch platforms, not ordinary vehicles that need to be steered.
- 04Paraglide only after gaining height. Jumping too early can leave Link short of the next platform.
- 05Check the left side before progressing. The chest is easy to miss if you immediately follow the right-hand route.
- 06Use the moving boat as a timing platform. It is usually easier to wait for a good alignment than to force a difficult jump.
Progression and nearby connections
Mayaumekis Shrine is especially relevant during the route through the Rising Island Chain towards the Wind Temple. The broader chain requires movement between sky platforms and floating boats, and later sections involve working with Tulin’s wind ability. That outdoor progression belongs to the regional route rather than to the shrine interior itself.
Completing the shrine does not itself complete the Wind Temple, unlock a shop, provide a permanent ability or alter the surrounding island chain. Its lasting benefits are the Light of Blessing, the completed shrine marker and the ability to fast travel back to the location.
