About this guide
Spoiler warning: This guide discusses the Thunderhead Isles, Dragonhead Island and the early stages of the main quest “Secret of the Ring Ruins”. It does not spoil the full ending of the quest or the late-game story beyond what is necessary to explain the shrine’s location.

Introduction
Joku-u Shrine is a small but easily overlooked Shrine of Light in the sky above Faron. It sits inside the eye-shaped structure on Dragonhead Island, one of the eastern islands within the wider Thunderhead Isles chain. The shrine’s official trial designation is Rauru’s Blessing, meaning that the challenge is reaching the shrine rather than solving a puzzle inside it.
The shrine is closely associated with “Secret of the Ring Ruins”, the main quest that leads Link through the Thunderhead Isles and towards the Zonai device containing Mineru’s Mask. It is possible to reach Dragonhead Island before clearing the storm, but the area is much easier to navigate after the relevant part of the quest has removed the heavy cloud cover.
Location and boundaries
Dragonhead Island
Joku-u Shrine is located on Dragonhead Island, an individual sky island whose shape resembles a dragon’s head. The shrine is inside the island’s eye-shaped structure, at the eastern end of the Thunderhead Isles route. Its position makes it part of the Dragonhead Island area, not a shrine on the Faron surface.
The island is connected narratively and geographically to the surrounding Thunderhead Isles, but these names should not be treated as interchangeable:

Access and recommended preparation
Normal story route
The most reliable route is to begin “Secret of the Ring Ruins” and follow the quest’s route through the Thunderhead Isles. Joku-u Shrine is positioned beside the door leading towards the chamber containing Mineru’s Mask, so it is encountered naturally during this progression.
The storm can obscure the islands and make map navigation difficult. Clearing the relevant early portion of “Secret of the Ring Ruins” removes the storm, reveals the island chain more clearly and makes the route substantially easier. Clearing the storm is not strictly required to activate Joku-u Shrine, however. A player who can navigate the cloud-covered islands may reach it beforehand.
Practical route
The Popla Foothills Skyview Tower is a practical starting point because it provides a direct launch towards the island chain, although the quest route and other sky-island approaches can also be used.
Useful preparation
The shrine itself requires no special equipment, but reaching it can be demanding if the storm is still active.
Practical route
- 01Travel to the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower or another suitable launch point in the Faron region.
- 02Use the Skyview Tower to gain height and glide towards the Thunderhead Isles.
- 03Move from island to island through the storm-covered chain, using available ledges, Zonai devices and air currents.
- 04Look for Dragonhead Island, recognisable by its large dragon-like shape.
- 05Enter the eye-shaped structure and activate Joku-u Shrine.
- 06Complete the short interior reward sequence.
Shrine walkthrough
Inside Joku-u Shrine
Joku-u is a Rauru’s Blessing shrine. The internal room contains a short path, a chest and the altar. There is no environmental puzzle, enemy encounter or device-construction challenge after entering. The travel through the Thunderhead Isles and the approach to Dragonhead Island serve as the practical challenge.
Step-by-step completion
The shrine is complete once the Light of Blessing is awarded. The Diamond is fixed shrine treasure, not a random drop.
Rewards and contents
The Light of Blessing contributes towards the usual Goddess Statue upgrades. Four Lights of Blessing can be exchanged for a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel at a Goddess Statue, subject to the normal game rules.
Step-by-step completion
- 01Enter the shrine.
- 02Walk forward along the central path.
- 03Open the chest to receive a Diamond.
- 04Continue to the altar at the far end.
- 05Interact with the altar to receive a Light of Blessing.
- 06Leave through the shrine exit or use the shrine as a fast-travel destination.
Rewards and contents
| Source | Reward |

| Treasure chest | Diamond |
| Shrine altar | Light of Blessing |

Nearby connections and progression
Joku-u Shrine is important less for its own puzzle and more for its position on the route through the Thunderhead Isles. It is directly tied to the part of “Secret of the Ring Ruins” that leads towards the ancient Zonai story surrounding Mineru. The shrine’s entrance is described as being immediately outside the door leading towards Mineru’s Mask, making it a useful landmark during that quest.
The surrounding islands also contain another shrine, Joku-usin Shrine, but it should be completed separately. Joku-usin has the trial name Proving Grounds: Short Circuit, whereas Joku-u is only Rauru’s Blessing. Confusing the two is one of the most common causes of incorrect route information for this part of the map.
Story-state differences
No missable shrine reward is associated with a particular dialogue choice. The Diamond and Light of Blessing remain available until collected, although the broader quest context and visibility of the islands change as the story progresses.
Story-state differences
| Game state | What changes |
|---|---|
| Before clearing the storm | Thunderhead Isles are difficult to see and navigate; the shrine can still be reached with sufficient aerial exploration. |
| After the early “Secret of the Ring Ruins” progression | The storm is cleared, the island chain is easier to map and the route to Dragonhead Island is more convenient. |
| After activating Joku-u Shrine | The shrine remains available as a fast-travel point. |
| After completing the shrine | The Diamond and Light of Blessing cannot be collected again in the same save. |
Exploration route and checklist
Suggested first visit
For a smooth first visit, follow this order:
Suggested first visit
- 01Start or advance “Secret of the Ring Ruins” until the Thunderhead Isles become the current exploration route.
- 02Clear the storm if you prefer straightforward navigation.
- 03Explore the islands while following the quest marker towards Dragonhead Island.
- 04Activate Joku-u Shrine as soon as it comes into view.
- 05Collect the Diamond and Light of Blessing.
- 06Continue with the story route towards the Mineru-related objective.
- 07Return later to search the wider Thunderhead Isles for the separate Joku-usin Shrine and other sky-island content.
Residents, services and enemies
Joku-u Shrine is not a settlement and has no permanent residents, shops or ordinary NPCs. No functional business, inn, stable, armourer, cooking service or quest-giver is located inside the shrine.
There is also no combat encounter within the shrine itself. Any danger comes from the approach through the Thunderhead Isles, including traversal hazards and enemies encountered on the surrounding islands. The shrine’s interior is deliberately safe and compact because it is a reward chamber rather than a conventional puzzle dungeon.

Lore and visual details
The shrine’s interior includes a statue associated with Rauru and Sonia, matching the visual and historical themes of the Zonai-era story. The altar’s purpose is the standard Shrine of Light function: rewarding Link with a Light of Blessing after the shrine has been reached.
The placement inside a dragon-head-shaped island is especially appropriate to the area’s wider Zonai presentation. Dragonhead Island is not merely a map marker for the shrine: it is also a story-significant location on the route towards Mineru’s Mask. The shrine therefore works as both a conventional fast-travel point and a visual signpost for the ancient Zonai material revealed during the quest.
