About this guide
Spoilers: This guide reveals the shrine’s puzzle layout, chest reward and its relationship with the Depths.
Overview
This guide covers Jiosin Shrine in the base game of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It treats the shrine itself as the primary location, while separately identifying its immediate surface and Depths connections. It does not expand the scope to include Lookout Landing, the wider Hyrule Field region or the whole Hyrule Field Chasm.

Introduction
Jiosin Shrine is a Shrine of Light in Hyrule Field, immediately south of Lookout Landing and beside the Hyrule Field Chasm. Its trial, Shape Rotation, is a compact Ultrahand puzzle built around rotating solid objects until they match openings in surrounding walls. The shrine introduces a simple but important Tears of the Kingdom skill: objects do not merely need to be moved, but often need to be oriented precisely before they can pass through a space or form a useful structure.
The shrine contains one optional treasure chest holding a Hasty Elixir. Completing the altar awards a Light of Blessing, restores Link’s health and establishes the shrine as a fast-travel point. Jiosin Shrine also corresponds to Nisoij Lightroot in the Depths, although the Lightroot is a separate location and should not be confused with the shrine itself.
Location and boundaries
Jiosin Shrine stands on the surface in Hyrule Field, at the southern edge of the Lookout Landing area. It is close enough to the settlement that it is often described simply as “south of Lookout Landing”, but the shrine is not part of Lookout Landing. Lookout Landing is a separate settlement with its own buildings, characters, facilities and quests.
The shrine is also beside the Hyrule Field Chasm. The chasm is an important neighbouring landmark and a route into the Depths, but it is not an internal subarea of Jiosin Shrine. The shrine’s underground counterpart is Nisoij Lightroot, reached in the Depths rather than through the shrine’s puzzle rooms.

Access and nearby connections
The most direct approach is from Lookout Landing. Leave the settlement through its southern side and travel towards the Hyrule Field Chasm. Jiosin Shrine is close to the chasm’s surface opening, making it easy to identify once the shrine icon or green glow is visible.
The shrine can be found before or during the early story route that leads through Lookout Landing. Guides commonly associate it with Camera Work in the Depths, the quest obtained from Josha, because the shrine and the chasm are in the same general area. However, Jiosin Shrine is not presented as a shrine quest requiring the completion of that mission. It can be entered and completed independently once Link has access to the necessary abilities.
Practical route from Lookout Landing
The surrounding surface is open terrain rather than a dungeon approach. There is no reported gate, key, weather condition or quest state that blocks entry.

Practical route from Lookout Landing
- 01Start at Lookout Landing.
- 02Leave through the southern approach.
- 03Head towards the Hyrule Field Chasm.
- 04Look for the shrine near the chasm’s rim.
- 05Activate the shrine before entering if you want to establish the fast-travel point immediately.
- 06Enter and begin the Shape Rotation trial.
Geography and layout
Jiosin Shrine is a small, self-contained puzzle space divided into a series of chambers connected by wall openings. Its rooms are designed around two unusual stone shapes:
The walls contain openings cut to match these objects. Link must rotate each object with Ultrahand and move it through the correct opening. Once in the next chamber, the same object is reused as a bridge, platform or set of steps.
The shrine’s layout is essentially a sequence of applications of the same idea:
This makes Jiosin Shrine a teaching shrine for spatial reasoning rather than a combat challenge.

Geography and layout: steps
- 01A long, irregular shape with an X-like profile.
- 02A larger two-cube or paired-block shape.

Shrine structure
The shrine does not contain a regular enemy encounter, a miniboss, a shrine quest or a combat-training sequence.
---
1. Enter the first side room
After entering, look for the side room containing the long, irregular stone object. The object is behind an opening shaped to match it.
Use Ultrahand to grab the object. Rotate it until its outline matches the X-shaped opening in the wall. The exact orientation matters: if the shape is angled incorrectly, it will catch on the wall rather than passing through.
Move it through the opening and back into the starting chamber.
2. Use the first object as a bridge
Once the object is in the main chamber, rotate it so that it spans the gap in the floor. It does not need to be perfectly level, but it must provide a stable crossing.
Walk across the object and continue into the next section.
Useful tip
If the object slips or falls, do not restart the shrine. Use Ultrahand to retrieve it where possible and reposition it. The puzzle objects are intended to be moved repeatedly.
3. Find the paired-cube object
In the next section, enter the room on the right. Inside is the second major puzzle object, formed from two connected cube-like sections.
Use Ultrahand to rotate it until it matches the opening in the wall. As with the first object, the solution is based on matching its silhouette rather than forcing it through at an arbitrary angle.
Move it through the wall into the central area.
4. Reach the optional chest
The chest is on an elevated platform in the central chamber. It contains a Hasty Elixir.
Position the paired-cube object beneath or beside the raised area so that it functions as a platform. You can then use Ascend through the object or climb the resulting arrangement, depending on how you have placed it.
The chest is optional. Missing it does not prevent shrine completion, but it is the only treasure chest in Jiosin Shrine.
A reliable method is
- 01Place the object near the raised section.
- 02Stand beneath a part of it.
- 03Use Ascend to pass through the object.
- 04Climb or walk across to the chest.
- 05Open the chest to collect the Hasty Elixir.
5. Move the paired-cube object through the second opening
After collecting the chest, return to the central floor and pick up the paired-cube object again.
The next matching opening is in the wall on the left side of the chamber. Rotate the object until its outline matches that opening, then push it through.
This stage can be easier from the opposite side of the wall. If the object appears difficult to align while standing in the first chamber, move around to the adjoining room and manipulate it from there. The important point is to match the object’s profile to the cut-out.
6. Build a climbing arrangement
In the final room, rotate the paired-cube object into a vertical or stepped arrangement. Position it against the raised section so that it creates successive footholds.
The second option is often faster, but it depends on the final orientation of the object. If Ascend does not detect a usable surface, adjust the object until a broad section is directly above Link.
7. Claim the Light of Blessing
At the top of the final chamber, approach the glowing altar and examine it.
The Light of Blessing can later be exchanged at a Goddess Statue for a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel, subject to the normal exchange system. Jiosin Shrine itself does not provide a unique permanent item beyond its chest reward and completion reward.
---
Rewards and acquisition details
The Hasty Elixir is a fixed chest reward, not a random drop. The Light of Blessing is the fixed completion reward. There are no known alternate chest contents or procedural variations in the shrine’s layout.
---
Rewards and acquisition details
| Reward | How to obtain | Optional? |
|---|---|---|
| Hasty Elixir | Open the elevated chest in the central chamber | Yes |
| Light of Blessing | Complete the shrine and examine the altar | No |
Nearby and connected locations
Lookout Landing
Lookout Landing is the nearest major settlement and the most convenient starting point for reaching Jiosin Shrine. It is also the source of several early-game activities and the Camera Work in the Depths questline. It should nevertheless be treated as a separate location rather than a subarea of the shrine.
Hyrule Field Chasm
The shrine is positioned beside the Hyrule Field Chasm. The chasm provides access to the Depths and is a prominent navigation landmark when approaching from Lookout Landing.
The chasm’s interior, enemies, resources and routes are not part of the shrine’s puzzle. Players visiting both locations should activate the shrine first, then decide whether to descend into the chasm.
Nisoij Lightroot
Nisoij Lightroot is the Depths counterpart directly associated with Jiosin Shrine. Shrine and Lightroot names follow the game’s broader naming relationship in which a surface shrine’s name is reversed for its corresponding Depths Lightroot. Nisoij Lightroot is not an additional reward room inside Jiosin Shrine and should not be counted as a shrine subarea.
---
Enemies, hazards and secrets
Jiosin Shrine has no combat encounter or boss. Its main hazards are environmental:
The shrine does not require a special weapon, armour set, elemental resistance or consumable. The Hasty Elixir chest is the only optional collectible specifically reported inside the shrine.
There is no evidence of a hidden second chest, a Shrine Quest condition or a missable reward. The chest can be collected before completing the altar, and the shrine remains completable if the player chooses to leave it unopened.
---
Suggested exploration route
This route avoids backtracking and establishes a fast-travel point before entering the more hazardous underground area.
---
For an efficient early-game visit
- 01Travel south from Lookout Landing.
- 02Activate Jiosin Shrine.
- 03Complete the first shape puzzle and use the object as a bridge.
- 04Move the paired-cube object into the central chamber.
- 05Collect the Hasty Elixir before progressing.
- 06Send the object through the left-hand opening.
- 07Use it to climb to the altar.
- 08Claim the Light of Blessing.
- 09Only then descend into Hyrule Field Chasm if you are continuing into the Depths.
Lore and series context
Jiosin Shrine is a Tears of the Kingdom Shrine of Light rather than a shrine carried over from Breath of the Wild. Although the two games share a broad version of Hyrule’s geography, the shrine’s specific Shape Rotation trial belongs to the sequel’s Ultrahand-based puzzle design.
The altar includes the familiar Rauru and Sonia imagery associated with Shrines of Light in Tears of the Kingdom. Its most significant design role is instructional: it teaches players to think of Ultrahand objects as three-dimensional shapes that can be rotated and fitted through matching spaces, rather than simply as items to pick up and attach.
