About this guide

Spoiler warning: The guide reveals the shrine trial, chest reward and the relation between the shrine and its Depths counterpart.

Overview

Makurukis Shrine is a Shrine of Light in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Its trial, Combat Training: Archery, is a short combat tutorial focused on bow control and headshots rather than a conventional environmental puzzle. The shrine stands on the southern edge of Mount Rhoam in Hyrule Ridge, on the cliff overlooking Tabantha Bridge Stable.

This guide covers the shrine itself, its immediate exterior approach and the directly connected landmarks needed to find it. Tabantha Bridge Stable, Tabantha Great Bridge and Tanagar Canyon are treated as neighbouring locations, not as subareas of Makurukis Shrine. The Depths counterpart, Sikurukam Lightroot, is also listed as a separate connected location rather than part of the shrine interior.

Location and boundaries

Makurukis Shrine proper

The shrine entrance is positioned on the southern edge of Mount Rhoam, in Hyrule Ridge. From the entrance area, the shrine has a clear view over Tabantha Bridge Stable below. This elevated position is useful for identification: if the stable is visible beneath a rocky cliff and the shrine is nearby, Link is in the correct area.

The shrine’s functional boundary begins at its entrance and continues through the enclosed combat-training chamber to the altar and treasure room. The outdoor cliff, stable and roads are not part of the shrine interior, although they form the practical approach.

Immediate exterior

The shrine sits on a cliff above the stable rather than inside a cave or beneath the stable grounds. It is therefore normally approached from the surrounding slopes, by climbing, gliding or reaching the upper ground through the Hyrule Ridge landscape. The location is described as being immediately outside or above Tabantha Bridge Stable, but the stable remains an independent facility with its own services and activities.

Neighbouring locations, not subareas

The following places help define the shrine’s setting but should not be merged into a single “Makurukis Shrine area”:

Finding Makurukis Shrine

From Tabantha Bridge Stable

This is the most direct surface approach.

The shrine is sufficiently close to the stable that it can serve as a convenient fast-travel point when Link is travelling through western Central Hyrule or towards the Tabantha region. The stable itself is not required to activate the shrine.

From Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower

If Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower has been activated, the shrine is southwest of the tower. Launch from the tower and glide towards the Mount Rhoam and Tabantha Bridge area, using the stable and bridge as visual references. The exact glide distance depends on Link’s stamina, paraglider equipment and weather conditions, so a direct glide is not always preferable to landing and continuing on foot.

From Tabantha Great Bridge

The bridge crosses Tanagar Canyon near the shrine’s surrounding area. Travelling across it provides a reliable route to Tabantha Bridge Stable, after which the shrine can be reached by climbing the cliff above the stable. The bridge is a route landmark, not part of the shrine.

Navigation checklist

The shrine supplies a bow and arrows, so a missing bow does not prevent completion.

From Tabantha Bridge Stable

  1. 01
Reach Tabantha Bridge Stable, on the eastern side of Tabantha Great Bridge.
  2. 02
Look up towards the cliff and mountain slope above the stable.
  3. 03
Climb the slope or use the surrounding terrain to gain height.
  4. 04
Activate Makurukis Shrine when you reach its entrance.
  5. 05
If climbing directly, pause on ledges to recover stamina. A stamina-restoring meal or elixir is useful if Link is still early in the game.

Shrine trial: Combat Training: Archery

Makurukis Shrine is a combat-training shrine rather than a puzzle shrine. The central lesson is simple: aim for the enemy’s head and fire with a bow.

The Constructs in this trial are designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of headshots. In the training encounter, attacks other than the required archery technique are not an effective way to progress. The shrine therefore tests aiming, spacing and the ability to keep a moving enemy within the reticle.

Enemy behaviour

The Constructs initially use bows, but their ranged phase is brief. According to the available walkthrough, each Construct fires a single arrow before abandoning the bow and pursuing Link with melee attacks. This makes the opening shot important, but a missed shot does not necessarily ruin the attempt. Create distance, turn, and aim again once the enemy is no longer immediately on top of Link.

Practical aiming advice

The trial is intended to teach the same general habit used throughout Tears of the Kingdom: identify a monster’s weak point, create enough distance to use it safely, and conserve ammunition by making accurate attacks.

Enemies and combat directory

The shrine contains a fixed combat-training encounter rather than a random monster spawn or a procedural battle. The available guide identifies three bow-equipped Constructs in total: one initial Construct followed by two additional Constructs.

Named enemy entries within the shrine

These are three instances of the same enemy type, not three separately named characters. Their arrangement is fixed for the trial, and they do not represent a wider faction or story group within the shrine.

Items and rewards

Trial supplies

The shrine provides temporary or immediately usable equipment for the trial:

The arrows are practical trial supplies, not a separate treasure-chest reward. Their purpose is to ensure that the shrine remains completable even when Link arrives without archery equipment.

Treasure chest

After defeating all three Constructs, the exit opens and leads to the shrine’s chest.

This chest is fixed shrine content. It is not a random drop from the Constructs.

Nearby connections

Tabantha Bridge Stable

Tabantha Bridge Stable lies below the shrine and is the most useful nearby service point. It is not part of Makurukis Shrine, but the shrine’s position is commonly described in relation to it. Players can use the stable as a visual landmark when searching for the cliff and as a convenient stop before attempting the shrine.

Because stable services belong to the stable rather than the shrine, they should not be counted as Makurukis Shrine rewards or facilities.

Tabantha Great Bridge

The bridge is a major route through the canyon area. It leads travellers towards the stable and the surrounding Tabantha and Hyrule Ridge routes. Its importance here is navigational: if the bridge and stable are located, the shrine is on the elevated ground above them.

Tanagar Canyon

Tanagar Canyon is the large geographical feature crossed by Tabantha Great Bridge. It helps distinguish this approach from routes through the more open central plains. The canyon is part of the surrounding world geography, not a shrine subarea.

Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower

Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower is a useful starting point for aerial travel. Once activated, it provides a high launch point and map reference southwest of Makurukis Shrine. It does not unlock the shrine or alter its trial.

Sikurukam Lightroot

The shrine corresponds with Sikurukam Lightroot in the Depths. This is a vertical-world relationship rather than an extension of the shrine’s interior. Activating the lightroot is a separate Depths activity and should be recorded independently from completing Makurukis Shrine.

---

Progression and missability

Makurukis Shrine is available as a normal surface shrine in the base game. The available sources do not identify a shrine quest, story lock or temporary progression state required to enter it. The trial can be completed when Link reaches the shrine and has access to the bow mechanics used by the game.

No verified missability trigger is reported in the researched material. Completing the shrine removes the combat encounter as an active challenge, but the location remains available as a fast-travel point after activation and completion.

Suggested exploration route

For a practical Hyrule Ridge trip, use the following route:

This route keeps the shrine’s immediate geography clear: stable and bridge as approach landmarks, Mount Rhoam as the shrine’s landform, and Hyrule Ridge as the wider regional setting.
