Key takeaways

  • Kawumoro Lightroot is in the Tabantha Frontier Depths, not in the Hebra Mountains Depths or Gerudo Highlands Depths.
  • Its Surface counterpart is Oromuwak Shrine, located in the Tabantha Frontier.
  • The Lightroot is primarily a map, visibility and fast-travel facility No unique shop, quest or resident is documented at the site.
  • A hostile enemy base lies directly west of Kawumoro Lightroot, on top of a ledge The camp contains Silver and Black Bokoblins and Like Likes, including a Rock Like and a regular Like Like.
  • The most reliable way to locate it from the Surface is to find Oromuwak Shrine and descend into the Depths near its position, or to use an already activated Lightroot and travel across the illuminated map.
  • The map location is commonly given at approximately −3077, 1616, −581 in the Depths coordinate format used by map data. Other guide databases list a nearby rounded position around −3077, 1615, −0687, so coordinate readings should be treated as map-reference values rather than an exact landing point.

About this guide

This article covers the base game of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Spoilers: This guide discusses the Depths, map progression and nearby enemy activity, but it does not spoil the main story’s ending.

Overview

Kawumoro Lightroot is a Lightroot in the Tabantha Frontier Depths, the western portion of the Depths beneath the Tabantha Frontier. It is a compact location rather than a broad explorable region: the named place itself consists of the Lightroot and its immediate surrounding cavernous terrain. It does not contain a settlement, dungeon, shop, named NPC, mission hub or separately documented child area.

Its main importance is practical. Activating Kawumoro Lightroot illuminates the surrounding section of the Depths, provides a fast-travel point and restores Link’s visibility and resistance to the local darkness. It also forms a useful navigation point for travelling between the Tabantha Frontier Depths and neighbouring portions of the western Depths.

Kawumoro Lightroot corresponds to Oromuwak Shrine on the Surface. As with other Lightroots, its name is the Surface shrine’s name written backwards: Oromuwak becomes Kawumoro.

Location and boundaries

Tabantha Frontier Depths

Kawumoro Lightroot belongs to the Tabantha Frontier Depths, one of the named regional divisions of the Depths beneath western Hyrule. The wider subregion includes several Lightroots, including Aduon, Kataki, Kawakarut, Koro-nui, Sasag, Sikatag, Yisuayam and Kawumoro.

The Lightroot should not be treated as synonymous with the whole Tabantha Frontier Depths. The wider subregion contains multiple routes, enemy camps, chasms and other points of interest. Kawumoro Lightroot is one named facility within that larger area.

The immediate site

The named location is centred on the glowing Lightroot itself and the nearby Depths floor and slopes. Available location listings do not identify a settlement, mine, grove, coliseum, forge, Bargainer Statue, Yiga base, named building or mission-only subarea as part of Kawumoro Lightroot.

The most important nearby feature is the enemy camp to the west. It is a separate hostile site, not part of the Lightroot’s own facility, but it is close enough to affect route planning and exploration around the location.

Surface counterpart: Oromuwak Shrine

Every Lightroot is directly beneath a Surface Shrine of Light, and Kawumoro Lightroot is paired with Oromuwak Shrine. The pairing is especially useful when the Depths are still dark: an activated Surface shrine gives you a reliable landmark from which to estimate the Lightroot’s position below.

Oromuwak Shrine is identified by the trial name “A Launching Device”. The shrine is in the Tabantha Frontier, on the Surface area associated with the Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower region and the Lucky Clover Gazette area. The shrine’s exact puzzle and reward belong to Oromuwak Shrine rather than Kawumoro Lightroot and are therefore outside this location’s boundaries.

Access and routes

From the Surface

The simplest route is to reach the area around Oromuwak Shrine on the Surface and then enter the Depths through a nearby chasm. The Surface shrine and the Lightroot are vertically linked in the game’s world structure, although a chasm entrance is not necessarily directly beside the Lightroot.

Once underground, use the Surface map to compare the shrine’s position with the Depths map. The Depths map mirrors the Surface in broad layout terms, and the shrine-Lightroot correspondence makes Surface landmarks useful even before the underground map is illuminated.

From another Lightroot

If you have already activated a nearby Lightroot in the Tabantha Frontier Depths, fast travel to it and travel towards Kawumoro. This is safer than entering an unexplored chasm with limited visibility.

Suggested exploration route

For a first visit, explore Kawumoro Lightroot before approaching the enemy camp.

From another Lightroot: A practical approach is

  1. 01
Fast travel to the nearest activated Lightroot in the Tabantha Frontier Depths.
  2. 02
Bring Brightbloom Seeds, arrows or another reliable light source if the route remains unlit.
  3. 03
Use the map marker for Kawumoro Lightroot and travel across the open Depths.
  4. 04
Avoid climbing unfamiliar gloom-covered walls unless necessary.
  5. 05
Activate Kawumoro as soon as its glow becomes visible.
  6. 06
Use the newly illuminated map to plan the next route, including the enemy camp west of the site.

Suggested exploration route

  1. 01
Arrive at Kawumoro Lightroot. Activate it immediately to reveal the local map and establish a fast-travel point.
  2. 02
Check the surrounding terrain. Look for open routes and ledges rather than moving directly into unlit ground.
  3. 03
Travel west cautiously. The documented enemy camp is on top of a ledge west of the Lightroot.
  4. 04
Scout from below or from a side angle. A high approach can expose Link to ranged attacks and Like Like projectiles.
  5. 05
Decide whether to clear or bypass the camp. It is not required to activate Kawumoro Lightroot.
  6. 06
Return to the Lightroot or mark the camp. This preserves Kawumoro as a safe fast-travel point for later resource runs.

Enemies and hazards

Enemy camp west of Kawumoro

A small enemy base is located directly west of Kawumoro Lightroot, on top of a ledge. The reported group includes:

The camp’s exact item drops and weapon loadout can vary according to ordinary enemy equipment and the player’s progression state. The camp should therefore be treated as a combat encounter, not as a fixed reward chest location unless confirmed by an in-game inspection.

The ledge gives the enemies a positional advantage. Like Likes can attack from awkward angles, while the Bokoblins can force Link into gloom-covered ground or towards the edge of the platform. Lighting the area first makes the encounter considerably easier because it improves visibility and helps distinguish safe ground from gloom.

Gloom

The Depths around Kawumoro may contain gloom on the ground or on routes leading towards nearby ledges. Gloom temporarily reduces Link’s maximum hearts when he stands in it. The Lightroot’s glow helps with visibility but does not make Link immune to gloom damage.

Facilities and functions

Kawumoro Lightroot has the standard functions associated with a Lightroot:

There is no verified evidence that Kawumoro Lightroot contains any of the following:

This distinction matters because the wider Tabantha Frontier Depths contains other points of interest. Those should not be folded into Kawumoro Lightroot merely because they are in the same regional map.

Items and collectibles

The Lightroot itself is a traversal and map facility rather than a known treasure site. No unique item reward is documented as belonging specifically to Kawumoro Lightroot.

Potentially available resources in the surrounding Depths can include ordinary underground materials, enemy drops and environmental pickups. These are not unique to the named location and may vary according to the player’s route, enemy state and collection history.

The nearby enemy camp may provide normal combat rewards such as monster parts, weapons or materials, but its exact inventory should not be presented as a fixed Kawumoro Lightroot reward without direct confirmation from the game.

Missions and progression

Kawumoro Lightroot is not documented as the starting point for a named mission. It does not have a known unlock condition beyond reaching the location and interacting with the Lightroot.

It can be visited at almost any point after Link gains access to the Depths. However, practical progression affects how comfortable the journey is:

Activating the Lightroot itself is permanent for that save file. It remains available as a fast-travel point unless the player is in a state where fast travel is temporarily restricted by the game.

Relationship between shrines and Lightroots

Kawumoro is a useful example of one of *Tears of the Kingdom*’s most important map relationships. A Surface Shrine of Light corresponds to a Lightroot in the Depths, and the name is reversed between the two layers:

This relationship is especially valuable when searching for missing Lightroots. If a Surface shrine is visible on the map but the corresponding area of the Depths remains dark, checking the matching position is often the fastest way to identify the missing Lightroot. The reverse also works: an activated Lightroot indicates the approximate position of a Surface shrine.

The relationship is a naming and location aid, not evidence that the shrine and Lightroot share a puzzle, treasure room or quest.
