Importancemajor

Key takeaways

  • Ijo-o Shrine is at approximately -3860, 2682, 0702, on a high island in the West Hebra Sky Archipelago.
  • The most straightforward approach begins at Rospro Pass Skyview Tower, from which Link can glide north towards the archipelago.
  • The shrine’s required techniques are Fuse, shield guarding and careful use of elemental devices.
  • Its optional chest contains five arrows.
  • Completion awards one Light of Blessing.
  • The nearby island has a Device Dispenser containing Flame Emitters, Portable Pots, Rockets and Time Bombs. This dispenser belongs to the surrounding archipelago, not to the shrine interior.

Introduction

Ijo-o Shrine is a Shrine of Light in the West Hebra Sky Archipelago, in the Hebra Mountains Sky. Its trial is called “More than Defense”, a name that describes the central lesson: shields are not only for blocking attacks. During the shrine, Link uses shields fitted with a Flame Emitter, a stone slab and a Rocket to melt ice, resist flame jets and launch himself upwards.

The shrine itself is a compact combat-and-device puzzle rather than a Shrine Quest. It contains several Construct fights, one optional treasure chest and a final rocket-shield launch to the altar. The surrounding island is part of a larger sky-island group with a Device Dispenser and routes towards other West Hebra Sky Archipelago landmarks. Those neighbouring islands are not part of Ijo-o Shrine proper, but they are useful to understand when planning your approach.

Location and boundaries

Ijo-o Shrine is located on one of the large northern islands in the West Hebra Sky Archipelago, above the western Hebra landscape. The archipelago is a distinct sky region rather than a name for the entire Hebra Mountains Sky. The surrounding group includes lower islands, floating platforms, a Device Dispenser and separate combat and treasure locations.

The distinction matters because the shrine is a self-contained puzzle, while the wider archipelago is an exploration area with its own enemies, collectibles and routes.

Access and routes

The usual route is to launch from Rospro Pass Skyview Tower and glide north towards the West Hebra Sky Archipelago. The tower provides the initial height, but the shrine’s island may be too high or too distant to reach in one glide depending on Link’s stamina, equipment and the exact launch angle.

Several floating platforms in this part of the archipelago can be used as temporary hot-air balloons. Because the platforms remain in place, you can allow the balloon to stop, recover your battery or reposition before continuing.

Preparation

The exterior route is in the cold Hebra sky. Wear cold-resistant equipment or use a suitable meal or elixir before leaving the tower. The shrine interior itself is not primarily a cold-weather challenge, so the protection is most important during the approach.

Recommended route from Rospro Pass Skyview Tower: A practical route is

  1. 01
Activate Rospro Pass Skyview Tower if you have not already done so.
  2. 02
Launch and aim north towards the visible sky islands.
  3. 03
Land on a lower or intermediate island if your stamina is running short.
  4. 04
Look for a floating platform fitted with a Balloon and Flame Emitter.
  5. 05
Activate the balloon to gain height, then glide to the island containing Ijo-o Shrine.
  6. 06
Land near the shrine entrance and activate it before entering.

Shrine walkthrough

1. Enter the first room

Descend the stairs from the entrance. A large block of ice blocks the direct route ahead. Do not waste weapons trying to break through it.

Instead, move into the side passage. A Soldier Construct is positioned there with a shield fitted with a Flame Emitter. Defeat the Construct and take the shield. Some guides describe this as optional if you already possess a suitable flame-emitting weapon, but the supplied shield is the intended solution.

2. Melt the first ice barrier

Equip the Flame Emitter Shield. Raise it with the normal shield-guard command so that the Flame Emitter points towards the ice. The heat will melt the block and open the passage.

This is the shrine’s first demonstration that a shield can function as a tool. You are not using it to block an attack, but to project an elemental effect.

3. Collect the optional chest

After passing the first ice barrier, inspect the right-hand side of the next area. A second block of ice conceals a treasure chest.

Use the Flame Emitter Shield again and wait for the ice to melt. Open the chest to receive:

The arrows are a fixed shrine reward, not a random drop.

4. Obtain the Stone Slab Shield

Further ahead, flame jets block the passage. A second Soldier Construct is nearby, carrying a shield fitted with a stone slab. Defeat it and collect the Stone Slab Shield.

The shield is used as a physical barrier rather than as an elemental device. Equip it before approaching the flames.

5. Cross the flame jets

Raise the Stone Slab Shield and walk forwards through the flames. Keep the shield between Link and the jets. The slab is broad enough to protect him while he advances.

Do not lower the shield unnecessarily. If you are knocked backwards, retreat, raise it again and move in short controlled steps. The shrine’s title, “More than Defense”, is reflected directly here: the shield is being used as portable cover to alter the environment and create a safe route.

6. Defeat the final Construct

The next room contains another Construct, identified by walkthrough sources as a Captain Construct. Defeat it before attempting the final launch. This avoids being interrupted while preparing the Rocket Shield.

Once the room is safe, collect one of the available ordinary shields and locate the Rockets placed around the area.

7. Build a Rocket Shield

Use Fuse to attach a Rocket to a shield. The shrine provides both the shield and the Rocket, so you do not need to bring one from outside.

A Rocket Shield does not need several Rockets. One is sufficient for the upward boost required here.

8. Launch to the altar

Stand below the raised platform or ledge containing the shrine’s altar. Hold the Rocket Shield in a guarding position. The Rocket will activate and propel Link upwards.

The Rocket’s fuel is limited, so avoid activating it while facing a wall or from a position where the upper platform is not within reach. If the first attempt fails, the shrine contains additional Rockets and shields for another try.

9. Claim the reward

Interact with the altar to receive the Light of Blessing. Ijo-o Shrine has no special quest completion condition and does not require a regional story mission. Its completion is recorded as soon as the Light of Blessing is collected.

3. Collect the optional chest

7. Build a Rocket Shield: The intended arrangement is simple

  1. 01
    Equip a shield.
  2. 02
    Activate Fuse.
  3. 03
    Select a Rocket.
  4. 04
    Attach it to the shield.
  5. 05
Put the fused shield away or keep it equipped until you are ready to launch.

8. Launch to the altar: When you reach sufficient height

  1. 01
Release the shield or stop guarding if necessary.
  2. 02
    Glide towards the upper platform.
  3. 03
    Land near the altar.
  4. 04
Examine the altar to complete the shrine.

Items, enemies and equipment directory

Fixed contents inside Ijo-o Shrine

The exact durability or incidental weapon properties of equipment should not be treated as a special shrine reward. The important fixed rewards are the chest contents and the Light of Blessing.

Enemies inside the shrine

The Captain Construct can drop a Captain Construct I Horn and a Zonai Charge when defeated, according to enemy-directory information. Drops are enemy loot rather than separate shrine treasure.

Nearby connections

Device Dispenser

A Device Dispenser is located outside, on the island across from the shrine. Its listed device types are:

This is particularly useful after completing Ijo-o Shrine because it supplies the same general class of devices demonstrated inside the trial. It is an exterior service of the West Hebra Sky Archipelago, not an object inside the shrine.

Lower island and Flux Construct

A lower island beneath the main group contains a Flux Construct I. This is a separate overworld encounter and is not required for Ijo-o Shrine. It is a worthwhile detour if you want a combat challenge, Zonai materials and the attached treasure associated with the archipelago.

King Gleeok arena

A King Gleeok arena lies farther across the West Hebra Sky Archipelago at a higher elevation. Reaching it generally requires a substantial flying or climbing arrangement, and the battle is entirely separate from Ijo-o Shrine. A Sage’s Will is associated with the wider King Gleeok location, not with the shrine chest.

Other archipelago exploration

The surrounding islands also contain separate treasure, Korok and material locations. Reported examples include:

These should not be counted as Ijo-o Shrine rewards. They belong to the wider West Hebra Sky Archipelago.

Suggested exploration route

For players who want to clear the shrine and inspect the immediate area efficiently:

Suggested exploration route: steps

  1. 01
Launch from Rospro Pass Skyview Tower.
  2. 02
Use the Balloon platform to reach the shrine island.
  3. 03
Activate Ijo-o Shrine to establish a fast-travel point.
  4. 04
Complete the shrine and collect the five-arrow chest.
  5. 05
Visit the nearby Device Dispenser and obtain Rockets or Flame Emitters if needed.
  6. 06
Glide down to the lower island and decide whether to fight the Flux Construct.
  7. 07
Return to the shrine island before attempting the distant King Gleeok route.
  8. 08
Leave the King Gleeok and high-island Sage’s Will for a later visit if your battery, cold protection or combat equipment is insufficient.
